NH House seat assigments

by: TimothyHorrigan

Wed Dec 29, 2010 at 17:33:24 PM EST

The seating assigments have been given out for the New Hampshire House of Representatives.  I got a not-so-great seat (but better than last time): 4-70.
TimothyHorrigan :: NH House seat assigments
There are 102 Democrats, 297 Republicans (counting Steve Vaillancourt as a Republican), and 1 vacancy (created when Bob Mead took the Chief of Staff job.)  There are actually 401 seats in Reps Hall, including the Speaker's chair, which is Seat 6-1.  Jennifer Daler will sit in 4-39 after she wins her special election.

The 102 Democrats got all 42 seats in Division 5 plus 60 seats in Division 4.  The Democrats only have 4 front row seats, but O'Brien gave Norelli & Co. all the aisle seats on the east side of Division 4 save 4-14.  That remaining aisle seat goes to Rick Ladd, a relatively liberal Republican.

my seat is slightly closer to the aisle... (0.00 / 0)
The row I am sitting in this session is an exact mirror image of the row in Division 2 where I sat last time.  (Reps Hall is not perfectly symmetrical, even if it looks that way from the back of the room.)  Last time I was 6 seats from the closest aisle, and I had one of the few seats with the pocket underneath rather than on the back of a seat in the previous row.  This time I am 5 seats from the aisle.

Our own Lucy Weber did get an aisle seat, on the aisle between Division 5 and the wall.

On the Republican side, O'Brien placed Gene Chandler & Sherm Packard in the very last row of Division 1 (which has only two seats.)  That has not been considered a prestigious placement in the past, although it actually is not a bad spot--- as proven by the fact that people are always standing  in the space just behind those two seats.

Why Do People Say Those Are "Coverted?" (0.00 / 0)
In the front row, you really have to pay attention or everyone knows you're not.  You can't read a newspaper or talk with your neighbor.  People can notice when you're sleeping.  And if you get up to escape for a few minutes, everyone knows!

I always preferred the back rows so I can see what those in the front were trying to do.  There's more "status" in that, Tim.  Besides, with your seat, you're closer to the aisle -- now THAT'S important.

I have been assigned to each section for at least for one term, and my favorite was the back row of Section 5, not too close to the wall so I could still see both podiums, and yet I could see everyone in the upstairs gallery, too.  It was nice seeing faces instead of just heads.  I'd much prefer that to any of the front rows.

[I'm a former has-been House member and State Senator, but I keep "Rep." on my ID name for easy reference of previous posts.]

back of section 5 (4.00 / 1)
The back of section 5 does sound good.

I don't know if people covet those front row seats, but those are generally given to members with seniority and/or leadership positions.

that's interesting Jim (4.00 / 1)
and sounds like a fitting punishment for some of the folks on that front row list.

[ Parent ]
That's why I always liked sitting in the rear of lecture halls! (4.00 / 1)
I also now appreciated sitting near the aisles for to escape easily for pit-stops, now that I am getting slightly older (let the nasty personal comments begin)!

only you (4.00 / 1)
can make your bladder gladder.

Section 4 here also (0.00 / 0)
Ignoring some of the chair/vicechairs who got the scarce front/aisle seats, the general makeup of Section 4 (with a few notable exceptions spicing it up) is the most diverse and also the least partisan minded, making for hopefully interesting discussions and comments with neighboring seatmates, and perhaps the most fun as a result.

You have 2 2-15s, BTW.  One (Bulis) should be 2-51.
Thank you for putting them into numeric order, I wanted a list like that, and was going to do it myself.

Someone has a sense of humor.... (4.00 / 4)
While there were many potential contenders for this seat, 4-20 went to Rep. Owens, who has submitted his Industrial Hemp bill again yet this year.

oops: TY for catching that, Seth (0.00 / 0)
I revised the diary to correct my error.  I am pretty sure Lyle Bulis would not be keen on sitting on Norm Major's lap, or vice versa.
