Son of Right to Work

by: susanthe

Fri Dec 30, 2011 at 00:02:00 AM EST

Speaker O'Brien and his fellow union buster, Neal Kurk are making another run at Right to Work. Sure, HB 474 is dead - BUT- HB 383 is being resurrected, and will be voted upon on January 4, 2012.

From NH Labor News:

This bill HB 383 has been held in committee since 3/9/11.  Then suddenly on 11/2/11 the bill left committee and will be taken up on the House Floor on 1/4/12.  One of the last bills that will br brought up in the closing of the 2011 session will be another Right To Work bill.  This one is a little different, but the premise is still the same.

and

This bill as submitted goes right for the State Employees.  As you can see this bill is worded very badly.  They are trying to say that anytime the membership of the State Employee's Association (SEIU 1984) exceeds 60% of all eligible employee's will make it ilegal to collect an agency fee.  Remember that in order to form a Union, you must have 51% of the eligible employee's vote for sole representation from the Union.

This is Right To Work all over again, just a different name.  There is also nothing stopping the house members from amending this bill remove the 60% number or removing any of the language about State Employees making it the same as HB 474.  So here we go again.

Text of the bill available here.

This bill is like a hydra. Rip off it's arm, and back it grows. It seems the O'Brien junta hasn't gotten the message yet. NH doesn't want RTW.

The obligatory quote from the Magna Carta:

19] No constable or his bailiff is to take corn or other chattels from anyone who not themselves of a vill where a castle is built, unless the constable or his bailiff immediately offers money in payment of obtains a respite by the wish of the seller. If the person whose corn or chattels are taken is of such a vill, then the constable or his bailiff is to pay the purchase price within forty days.

Layoffs at unemployment office a harbinger of an improving economy

CONCORD - Dozens of workers at the state unemployment agency will soon be seeking its services.

The New Hampshire Department of Employment Security is laying off 53 full-time and 19 part-time workers.

Department Commissioner Tara Reardon said the staff cuts stem from the fact that hiring has picked up since last year.

"The good news is we have one third of the claims we had 18 months ago. The bad news is, with claims being lower, our base funding disappears," Reardon said. "We receive no state funding. Our federal funding is absolutely contingent on whatever the claim cycle is."

There are 11,000 current unemployment claims in New Hampshire, down from 39,000 in March 2010.

Reardon said the layoff notices went out this week and the final day for most of the employees will be Jan. 13.

So on some Monday morning at the DES (4.00 / 1)
a bunch of folks get up from their chairs and move from one side of the counter to the other side of the counter? Then , I suppose they will have to patiently wait their turn for the next available agent...

Kafka could dig this.

November 2012
Hope for a return to sanity.

I don't remember the margin by which 474 was defeated (0.00 / 0)
But there is one less vote against 383, with Susan Emerson, (R) Rindge, in the hospital on the 4th.

iirc they garnered 63% out of 66% necessary to override the Governor's veto n/t (0.00 / 0)

Pretty safe to say that (0.00 / 0)
if it goes to the floor, it's likely to pass.

The veto and sustain is all we have to hang hats on.

In the immediate aftermath of Since the start of the financial crisis, the Fed/Treasury lent, spent, or guaranteed $28 $29 $30 trillion to save the banking system.

Perhaps the NH GOP will fracture deeply over this (0.00 / 0)
Or I should say, continue to fracture.

While Bully is certainly making our job easier, it is by no means a "lock" that 2012 goes our way.  January 1, 2012 is when the hard work needs to begin.  A full court press on January 4th needs to happen.  Perhaps another Rally For NH?

Oh, and here is what Lee Quandt has to say on this subject, and a couple others: http://exeternewsservice.blogs...
