Withdrawn Bills

by: susanthe

Sat Jan 28, 2012 at 00:03:00 AM EST

We've been taking a look at some of the proposed legislation for 2012. Here are some of the 175 bills that were withdrawn:

2026 establishing a permanent state defense force.

Poor Itse. That he couldn't get this bill through THIS legislature must be breaking his heart.

2045 prohibiting state courts from using a foreign law or legal code in any ruling.

Because this happens all the time in NH? I wasn't aware.

2110 establishing a committee to study the economic benefits of processing, storing, and recycling nuclear waste in New Hampshire.

Excellent! An opportunity for a bunch of legislators from Rockingham County to send nuke waste to the north country. Then we'd have to move, like the flatlanders always suggest.

2124 relative to the process for choosing United States Senators.

It's safe to assume that the GOP would like to choose the next US Senator themselves, and eliminate the bother of an election.

2202 urging Congress to preserve Medicare in its current form.
2203 urging Congress to preserve social security in its current form.

We wouldn't want that.

2237 requiring a certified birth certificate of candidates for federal office.

Even the white folks?

2501 requiring a 100 percent consensus vote by union members to be included in collective bargaining agreements.

Okay. We'll do that when your district elects you with a 100% consensus vote.

2504 requiring the courts to give every woman who gets a restraining order a gun and box of ammunition and provide her with instruction in shooting.

If these women actually took those guns and ammo and started killing their abusers, how long do you suppose it would take them to repeal a law like this?

2521 repealing the interest and dividends tax in 2052.

We can't seem to enact our 10 year transportation plan in 10 years, but we can plan this far ahead to eliminate revenue. That's true dedication.

2617 relative to the definitions of resident for motor vehicle purposes and domicile for voting purposes and relative to vehicle registration and driver's license requirements.

Would this impact a certain well-known GOP legislator who represents one district whilst living in another?

2663 providing an affirmative defense under emergency circumstances for persons under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Seriously?

2791 establishing that the Portsmouth Navy Yard is within the borders of the state of New Hampshire.

Ah, if only Itse had gotten his army, we could start a war with Maine, and take the shipyard away from them.

At least one was a duplicate. (0.00 / 0)
The Judiciary Committee heard HB 1422, relative to applicability of foreign law, last Wednesday, January 25th.  Sound familiar?

One is a reprise.

HB 421, relative to candidates for United States Senator, died on the table in the House last year.

Here is a fact that should help you to fight a little longer.
Things that don't actually kill you outright make you stronger.

i am confused. (4.00 / 7)
2045 prohibiting state courts from using a foreign law or legal code in any ruling...what is the magna carta? or is that the reason they dropped the bill?
Sharia Law NO
Magna Carta YES

Colonial charters? (0.00 / 0)
When SCOTUS did, in fact, decide the navy yard is in Maine, they did so based on colonial charters (read: royal decrees) defining the Maine-NH border.

So this is accidentally consistent.

And the Magna Carta is in... (4.00 / 2)
Latin. Doesn't that qualify as a foreign language?!?

That describes this bunch to a T (0.00 / 0)
and they don't want nobody studying no Latin, neither.

Hope for a return to sanity.

I can't believe (0.00 / 0)
The GOP caucus doesn't vet these ideas before have the bills drawn up at an expense of $1500 per bill.  Aren't they the party of fiscal responsibility? Did the Dems propose this many crazy bills?

Something else... (4.00 / 2)
The number of bills. The last number cited here is 2791. These guys have come up with about 2800 bills, or 7 bills a piece? Doesn't that count as a lot of government?

JillSH

$4,200,000??? (0.00 / 0)
That's the round number I come up with using the figures given above. Yikes.

To paraphrase the legendary Ev, a million here, a million there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money...

Hope for a return to sanity.
