O'Keefe Relying On AG Sitting on His Hands

by: elwood

Tue Jan 31, 2012 at 18:00:21 PM EST

Yesterday James O'Keefe put out a press release. It begins:
PARAMUS, N.J., Jan. 30, 2012 PRNewswire via COMTEX -- On New Hampshire Primary Day, Project Veritas, while violating no laws, exposed the ease in which voter fraud can occur in states lacking voter identification requirements.

That's a bare-faced lie.

New Hampshire law is clear:

659:34 Wrongful Voting; Penalties for Voter Fraud. -
   I. A person is subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $5,000 if such person:
      (a) When registering to vote; when obtaining an official ballot; or when casting a vote by official ballot, makes a false material statement regarding his or her qualifications as a voter to an election officer or submits a voter registration form, an election day registration affidavit, a qualified voter affidavit, a domicile affidavit, or an absentee registration affidavit containing false material information regarding his or her qualifications as a voter;
      (b) Votes more than once for any office or measure;
      (c) Applies for a ballot in a name other than his or her own;

That is exactly what O'Keefe's squad did.  They - and their Republican supporters - make a lot of noise about not actually voting. But that doesn't matter - the crime is already committed before the vote is cast.

We do have a problem with election integrity in New Hampshire.The problem is: the Attorney General's office is not enforcing the law.

another problem... (0.00 / 0)
Another problem is that the Majority Leader condoned their actions, and misstated the law while doing so.

sitting state rep: running for re-election in 2012.

Prosecution would give O'Keefe et al a lot of publicity (0.00 / 0)
so they'd get another bite at the media apple.  But if it's prosecutable (which means more than the reading of the law), I suspect the benefit outweighs this cost.  IANAL.

Voter ID (0.00 / 0)
Rather than making everyone get a State approve photo ID why not get a camera at each polling place and picture with stated name of every one getting a ballot----now you have evidence of any crime .

But the GOPPER wants to suppress the vote of something like 30% of the poor that do not currently have a state photo id.
This clearly shows what the GOP motives really  are

OK, I was wrong. There is voter fraud. (4.00 / 1)
A jury in Indiana just convicted the Secretary of State of 6 felony charges.

Charlie White is a Republican. He's been temporarily suspended by the Governor.  If he get his convictions reduced to misdemeanors, he can have his job.
Where do Republican public officials get the idea that the law does not apply to them?  Is it just wishful thinking?  Is that the American dream they share?
