NH-Sen: Tausch Inching Closer to a Run

by: Dean Barker

Sun May 31, 2009 at 05:28:08 AM EDT

Says Tom Fahey:
There may be a new U.S. Senate candidate sending literature to your mailbox soon. In fact, it may be there already, from STEWARD of Prosperity, the group founded by Nashua investor Fred Tausch. He's working with Concord's Michael Dennehy, the former national political director for Sen. John McCain, and has targeted announced Democratic Senate candidate U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes in the most recent STEWARD mailer.

Tausch said, "A number of people have encouraged me to run for office, and that's not something I've ruled out." Tausch said when he founded his group early this year that he supported Barack Obama's presidential campaign. He contributed $2,300 to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Tausch said Friday he's a registered Republican.

I like this move, because he's a self-funder, so that should give the Sununu-Bass dynamic some heartburn.

And maybe the higher public profile will also help tease out from reporters whether or not he was a Mike Gravel supporter.

This Tausch guy is a hoot. I remember him having a contest that promised to pay a chunk of cash for the best homemade Gravel ad. I wonder if he paid up?

I hope he runs and produces his own commercials. The tag line is Crazy Enough To Make A Difference.

PPS From Red Hampshire:

Does this explain your own stupidity for voting for Obama? How does someone suddenly get smart after supposedly being hoodwinked by this slick puppet? We all knew what he was and what he would do if elected, why not you?

Folks I would not trust this STEWARD guy - he's an opportunist if I ever saw one. WE don't need anymore saboteurs in the GOP.

Oh, great. (0.00 / 1)
I love it when people with partisan ambition fund their own studies so they can claim expertise, then use it as a political weapon in the next election.

On a separate note, you'd think someone so critical of the President's stimulus as to fund an organization criticizing it would have noticed it was a major campaign promise before writing a check.
