Democracy Lives In Manchester & mini mayoral poll

by: JonnyBBad

Sat Jul 18, 2009 at 14:08:46 PM EDT

(Time to start thinking about the mayoral race... - promoted by Dean Barker)

Manchester rocks. In the last few months I've rethought my 'vicious' comments, and spent more time getting to enjoy the wonderful city.

You know, when Peter went off on JKL about death threats... etc., we had our fun at his expense. All that 'people want to run me over' stuff...so this is my mea culpa. If I've used terms or phrases that "fell flat" I regret it as Sonya Sotomayor said at her hearings.

JonnyBBad :: Democracy Lives In Manchester & mini mayoral poll
Not only is Manchester a great place to see a show, have a brew, get great pizza, or attend a blues jam*, but it is also alive with activity of the Democratic sort. There were not enough chairs for everyone who turned out for the regular City Dems meeting this morning!

The City Democrats office is now at the old Obama/Coord. campaign office on Elm St. Hodes for Senate took the space and gave the City Committee the front of the building from now till November. Its a great place from which to launch their campaign to take back City Hall.

3 Candidates for the Mayoral nomination, Rep. Richard Komi, Alderman Mark Roy, and former State Senator Bobby Stephen were all there and all said a few words. Lou D. gave the State House update, Mike Lopez the City Hall update, and Mike Brunelle the State update. Chairman Buckley was there as well. I was there to sell my print wares, and many were interested to talk. This on a funky Saturday in July.

Go Democrats. Take Manchester back !

Still not sure what's funny about a death threat (0.00 / 0)
Maybe when Levasseur and Hirschmann threaten you, or send you crude comments about your wife you'll see it differently.

"mea culpa" is an apology. The gracious thing is to accept it. (0.00 / 0)
It is an unpleasant reality that some people consider anyone who receives public notice for whatever reason to be fair game for harassment.  I expect it's because we have a great many people who suffer from being ignored and resent anyone who get attention they wish they had.

Humans aren't designed to live alone.

Ah, Peter. Thank you. (2.00 / 2)
I've been thinking we should just freaking BAN any diaries about the Queen City as hopeless. Thanks for the ammo.

Another chance for you (2.67 / 3)
to have fun with ratings. By "hopeless" I mean:
  1. Incredibly parochial, featuring people and neighborhoods the rest of New Hampshire neither knows nor cares about
  2. Immensely personal, involving feuds that may be generations-old
  3. Entirely removed from state politics, in terms of either policy choices or actual candidates for state or even district-wide office.

You folks should really start a Manchester politics only blog. The city deserves it.

(And we don't.)

Oh, sorry, I forgot. (0.00 / 0)
Those of us in Manchester are inbred, parochial buffoons who can't possibly match the high intellectual standards set by our bretheren in Cheshire and Grafton Counties.

They don't focus only on national races and/or issues. I may live in NH, but when the VA-Gov race comes up, I pay attention for the good of the party.

It was only 5 years ago when DKos asked all readers to follow a lesser-known State Senator in the Illinois Senate Race. What if we had said, "Oh, start yourself a Chicago Blog..."?

Maybe the next NH Governor is living in the Queen City, waiting for a community to help him/or her lead the way. I would think Blue Hampshire would be interested in that potential rising star.

I'm starting to get optimistic.... (4.00 / 3)
I'm going to change the tone here in my comment to the main subject of the post which is Manchester's mayoral race. I'd also like to bring up my optimism after 4 years gross negligence from Mayor Guinta.

It's refreshing to see Manchester's mayoral race get some attention on this site. I was starting to get worried about the prospect of Mayor Millionaire Gatsas, but after hearing about this morning's meeting, I'm more optimistic. I also know that with the help of Blue Hampshire anything is possible.

Look at the earlier post regarding CSP's service to our city, and I think one can see clearly the sharp contrast between the leadership styles of two leading NH-01 candidates. Carol Shea Porter views Manchester through rewarding the diversity of what makes it special. She is a public servant in the best possible way. She knows her constituents and doesn't neglect. As a constituent, this gives me something to be proud of.

Frank views improvement of the common good through the most narrow of methods. His 'leadership' has resulted in a poorer city with a reputation across the state that is diminishing fast. He forgets to pay his own taxes, while supposedly relating to the pain of city taxpayers.  He oversees a city budget that is receiving national attention for a school pay-to-play program, yet he sends his kids to private school. He fails to report a bar brawl that he witnessed, yet he ran as the law and order candidate. One of these incidents alone could be chalked up as an oversight, but I'm sensing a pattern. The man is a disgrace.

I've worried sometimes that the reputation of Manchester (on this site and elsewhere) has led to mere entertainment, with no real desire to assist. But, as I said, I'm starting to get optimistic....
