NHYD's Garth Corriveau to Run for Alderman!

by: Dean Barker

Tue Jul 21, 2009 at 19:58:19 PM EDT

Suddenly I have become interested in Manchester politics. Pindell:
On Tuesday Manchester Republican Chair Will Infantine filed as a candidate for the Ward Six Aldermanic seat. Tomorrow New Hampshire Young Democrats Chair Garth Corriveau will file for the same seat.

...In the morning Manchester Mayor Frank Giunta wrote an op-ed discussing whether or not Manchester residents would get to vote on a "tax-cap" on this fall's ballot. The issue is currently before a judge. It is not a conversation Corriveau wants to have.

"I look forward to an honest debate about how we balance providing city services with tax rates, but I will not engage in a false-debate about a so-called tax cap that I believe is unconstitutional."

Garth is one of the classiest, most principled people on BH.  Scratch that, he's one of the classiest, most principled Democrats in the entire state.

Let's do what we can to support him however he needs it.

You make us proud, Mr.Corriveau.

Good news! (4.00 / 2)
As I commented yesterday, I would hope Blue Hampshire would be interested in supporting any potential rising star. So yes, we all should be interested in Manchester politics. Garth has a bright future!

A Stand Up Guy (4.00 / 2)
I know Garth from around. Just a couple of years now, but he is straight very forward, which leads me to believe knowing him longer wouldn't really mean knowing him better.

I collaborated with Garth to put together the post Election '08 Blue Hampshire Bash. We met at the Shaskeen for lunch to check the place out and discuss ideas on how to proceed. Garth was easy to make plans with. His attitude was casual, yet was deep with a solid core of competency.

From the perspective of an Infantry team leader, Garth would make a fine company commander.

Garth will make an excellent alderman. (4.00 / 1)
Having briefly served as an NHYD officer with Garth last year, I'm confident he'll run a great campaign, he'll win, and he'll do right by our city.

The work begins (4.00 / 2)
Garth will be putting together an aggressive campaign and is going to work hard taking his message directly to the voters.  This is exactly the way to do it, particularly in Manchester city elections.

Also, cheers to Garth for taking the right position on the tax cap gimmick!  This kind of thinking is going to help our city purge itself after four years of Frank Guinta.

Running for alderman is a tough task. (4.00 / 3)
Manchester residents have very high expectations of personal service and engagement. Going door to door ward wide at least once is essential. Having the money to send the direct mail to get out the message and the vote is critical.

Will or his wife have been on the ballot every year since he moved to Manchester in the late 90's. He loves the fight of a campaign and is willing to do just about anything. Talk to Danny O'Neil about the vicious mailers he sent out in the 2000 senate race.

Ward 6 is a tough ward, a significant percentage are disgruntled former Bay Staters who still work there (access to the highway makes it easy). They don't have any connection to Manchester other than to vote no.

Garth is going to need more than good wishes. He is going to need shoe leather and greenbacks.

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.
