"Send Them Home With a Bullet in the Head"

by: Dean Barker

Tue Aug 11, 2009 at 23:05:41 PM EDT

So says a man with a megaphone today in Portsmouth, "them" being illegal immigrants:

And he goes on: "Read what Jefferson said about the Tree of Liberty. It's coming baby."

And that woman with the megaphone next to him shouting about how Obama is becoming a dictator?  Apparently a Sununu fan.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested for trespassing at Portsmouth HS prior to the president's visit.  He had an "unlicensed loaded gun" in his car.

Is there anyone in the GOP leadership, here or nationally, who has the courage, common sense, and - yes - patriotism to address this increasingly frightening circus?

the absolutely most disturbing thing I saw today was... (4.00 / 2)
A four or five year old girl holding a sign with the disrupters flipping the bird at healthcare supporters. Some family values...

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

The core family value for conservatives is obedience. (0.00 / 0)
Since humans are by nature social and gregarious, expressing antagonism towards strangers early in life is evidence that the lesson of obedience has been well learned.

Now would be a good time to check whether the Secret Service budget is adequate. (4.00 / 3)

I mention it because a recent Daily Show guest wrote a book on the subject and thinks it isn't.

Is there anyone in the GOP leadership who has the courage, common sense, and patriotism to address this increasingly frightening circus?

If they did that, there'd be no one to vote for them.

Spine (4.00 / 3)
"Is there anyone in the GOP leadership, here or nationally, who has the courage, common sense, and - yes - patriotism to address this increasingly frightening circus?"

Rep. Inglis of SC told an angry mob to stop watching Glenn Beck and tore into Beck in an interview afterwards - but alas, he's hardly part of the leadership. So, no.

The Wayward Episcopalian

Obedience is the root of this intollerance. (0.00 / 0)
If you've been reared with the clear understanding that every benefit and survival itself depends on being obedient to the head of the family's demands, then people who migrate at will and manage to sustain themselves in new environments, despite what some authority demands, represent a psychological threat and, very likely, a cause of jealousy.

"Why should they be able to go where they want when I can't?"

Even when they're not admitted, most emotional responses have a personal genesis.

So who provided the megaphone? (4.00 / 3)
Was it surplus Sununu for Senate material? Issued by the NHGOP? It didnt drop from heaven.

"But, in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope." Si se puede. Yes we can.

The woman with the Sununu bullhorn... (0.00 / 0)
is the sister of Salem Rep. Marilinda Garcia.

...oh and btw... (0.00 / 0)
of all the odd things this woman shouted yesterday it was her birther rants that were the strangest.

Thanks Ray (4.00 / 1)
In the future it might not be a bad idea to try to look for branding info on items used by the other side. If the nhgop or any other organization wants to empower or endorse people saying crazy or racist things, as some were doing so yesterday, they should be willing to take 'credit' for it.

The young guy with the GOP bullhorn... (0.00 / 0)
Joey Dauben - a 28-year-old Texas transplant who now lives in Plymouth - said he feels it is Obama supporters who are crazy.

Dauben repeatedly shouted toward the president's supporters using a bullhorn going so far as to compare them to "HIV."

It has his picture as well...it is so nice that the Freestaters move here and then claim to speak for all of us.

Somebody call Tweety (4.00 / 1)
He interviewed the guy with the "tree of liberty" sign.

The man with the megaphone that advocated shooting illegals that return to America quoted that sign.

PS. Having been around guns plenty, they don't freak me out. Sometimes the people that carry them do.

the GOP kept a relatively low profile (0.00 / 0)
... actually the Republicans kept a very low profile.  Rep. Garcia's sister showed up but as far as I know, Rep. Garcia herself stayed away.  (Marilinda Garcia is a fairly obscure member of the House anyway, although she is noticeable merely because she is one of the youngest members.)

Jennifer Horn apparently stopped by and did a live remote for her radio show.

The only two prominent local leaders who I personally spotted on the other side of Andrew Jarvis Drive were Congressional candidate Peter Bearse and BH's very own Denis Goddard. They both distanced themselves from the haters.  Ironically, Bearse was one of the few protestors who specifically said anything about the substance of the healthcare plans: he mocked the plan with an amusing banner with a laughably complicated flow chart on it.

Here is what Jefferson said (0.00 / 0)
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The man's sign was a threat. I'm all for free speech, but really, what does it take to get the Secret Service to "have a chat" with someone?

And why the hell did Matthews have him on?

Half Threats (4.00 / 1)
As I was driving out, I had a sign propped up facing out over the bed of my pickup truck. It was one of the signs the birthbaggers had been looking at all day. It was right there with my Veterans For Obama sticker.

So, I'm going slow 'cause there are cops and pedestrians everywhere; I hear a holla, 'Hey, make sure you put that sign on your front door. Don't be a coward.'

The word coward got to me. I stopped and leaned out, 'Yo, brotha. I'm a vet. Careful with the word coward. You have no idea what you are talking about.'

He says, "Well, that makes you a traitor."

'OK. my man. Good luck with that,' says I, as I pull away.

Well, I had to wait for the cop to let me pull out and my new pal catches up to me. As I pull onto the street, he throws one on for good measure, "TRAITOR!."

You have to give them credit... (0.00 / 0)
that group is creative enough to find what they believe is just the right insult.

While leaving the HS (with my 14 year old niece, her middle school friend and my sister Tracie) a well known conservative leader in NH yelled out my name and then made  repeated jestures that one could consider as oral sex.  My niece turned to me with a puzzled look. I just laughed at him and waved.

I found a good comeback too: (0.00 / 0)
"President Obama is going to serve all 4 years of his term, and all 4 years of his 2nd term if re-elected."

Don't be a coward, Ray. (0.00 / 0)
Name and shame.

Unless he genuinely intended it as an offer (which, given his status as a "well known conservative leader", is hardly implausible) he has no excuse and deserves no anonymity.

If you let him attempt anti-gay insults in public without calling him on it, well, that makes you a traitor.

And while I'm busy stealing Jack's lines, your best response, instead of laughing and waving, would've been to laugh and say, "OK. my man. Good luck with that."

[ Parent ]
Embarassed to say (0.00 / 0)
but I'll say it anyways 'cause I ain't perfect.

The guy that called me a coward was with another guy. I was so tempted to send him off the deep end by yelling, "You and your husband make such a cute couple."

The thought came to me and for that I am embarassed, but I am learning from my friends here on BH. I knew that such words would hurt my friends much more than it would those two knuckleheads.

I will make mistakes, but I pledge to not disparage mens' masculinity by comparing them to gays from now on. I'm just one imperfect person, but it's a start.

Watched the Matthews clip (0.00 / 0)
He did a good job with the guy; he really knows his history.

But I still question the wisdom of interviewing the guy in the first place.

That woman with the bullhorn. (0.00 / 0)
She was so full o' rage... We had a lot of fun with her as we had at the Leftest Marching Band behind us, they would play fine tunes and drowned her bull horn out, making her see red...Later, I and nearby Union guys waved our signs at her like towels, chanting Sar-Rah!, Sar-Rah!...Even her side saw the humor althrough she didn't.

Too many words (4.00 / 1)
Dean here's what I assume you meant to say:

Is there anyone in the GOP leadership, here or nationally...?

Yes! That's more succinct, and more correct. n/t (0.00 / 0)
