(Tedious. Bumped with update for today, 8 October. - promoted by Dean Barker)
Funny! So, how much is Ayotte realistically expected to haul in when the quarter ends next Wednesday? Those close to her opponents -- both Democratic and GOP -- claim "millions," in an obvious attempt to set the bar unrealistically high.
We'd say a more reasonable figure is in the $250,000 to $300,000 range. Who's this "we" in the first person plural? Brooks?
Look, I find the whole fundraising expectations dance to be an incredibly tedious exercise, for both parties. It's just a stoopid by-product of how campaigns are financed, and an even stoopider game of momentum narrative building.
But pegging a likely Ayotte haul at quarter of a million is just absurd. She'll clear that and then some, and then the next press release to come flying out from Team Ayotte to Cilizza and Cook and the other Villagers will feature what she raised while breathlessly contrasting this UL quote.
UPDATE, 8 OCTOBER: DiStaso: Nothing like the expectations game.
How much "should" GOP Senate front-runner Kelly Ayotte have raised in her first two months campaigning for next year's open U.S. Senate seat?
Well, let the debate begin. Ayotte campaign manager Brooks Kochvar tells the Status that when the initial quarterly Friends of Kelly Ayotte report is filed with the Secretary of the U.S. Senate and the Federal Election Commission a week from today, it will show the committee raised $613,000 and will have $561,000 on hand. There's nothing like the "expectations game", is there? Acccording to, um, DiStaso's expectations, she "should" have raised less than she did.
Breathless press release to follow, no doubt. |
