Itse-Bitsy Ravings

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

(It's important to keep track of what our state representatives are doing, for better or worse. - promoted by Jennifer Daler)

New Hampshire state rep. Dan Itse called into Rush Limbaugh yesterday to complain about the health insurance reform bill. Here is a transcript of part of the conversation (courtesy of granitegrok); it is bad enough that Itse spouts this nonsense here, but does he have to embarrass the state nationally?

RUSH: Dan in Fremont, New Hampshire, nice to have you with us, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Mega dittos Rush, from the live free or die state. Remember, death is not the worst of evils. What I wanted to talk to you about is that what the people need to do is get behind their state governments and get the state governments to stand up to the federal government and its overreaching, this usurpation of powers. We have a bill here in New Hampshire that's going to make it a misdemeanor to interfere with the health care or health insurance of a New Hampshire citizen based upon a federal law to which our general court has not given its consent.

RUSH: Well, it's an idea, except the states are being bought off. The reason the states are not going to oppose this is that they're all being bought off. Look at N! ebraska, look at Vermont, Louisiana, they're all being bought off.

CALLER: Well, New Hampshire wasn't bought off. Our Democrat senator wasn't smart enough to hold out.
_____________________
CALLER: Remember, too, that the Constitution only says that the Constitution laws pursuant to it and treaties are the supreme law of the land! . Therefore this monster is not part of the supreme law of the land.

Kathy Sullivan 2 :: Itse-Bitsy Ravings
1.  Death is not the worst of evils - listening to this discredited nullification nonsense may be, however. There will not be a law in New Hampshire requiring legislative consent to the health insurance reform bill after it is signed into law, because luckily the majority of our representatives believe in our American constitution, unlike Itse.

2.  Note the refusal to use the proper adjective, "Democratic". Here is an adjective for Rep. Itse: silly!

3.  He tries to insult Senator Shaheen by saying she is "not smart enough" to hold out for a special deal. If I were Itse, I would not get into a discussion of the intelligence of any particular elected officials, as Senator Shaheen has more smarts in her little finger than Itse has in the totality of his being.

4. Itse also should stay away from trying to interpret the Constitution. The "10-thers" always fail to remember the provisions of Article I, Section 8, which gives Congress the powers, inter alia,  to provide for the general welfare of the United States, and to regulate commerce.

5. Itse should re-read his oath of office, which includes something about bearing faith and true allegiance to the United States of America and the state of New Hampshire, and supporting the constitutions there of. He doesn't get to pick and choose which sections he wants to support, and he doesn't get to misread and misintrepet the documents, either. He also does not get to substitute his interpretations for about 200 years of interpretation by the United State Supreme Court. Article III, section 2 gives the judicial power to the Supreme Court, not Rep. Itse.

Maybe if your party is against torture prosecutions, don't remind everyone about the rule of law and the fact that the Geneva Conventions are legally binding in the United States.

Silly Kathy and your constitutional law classes in law school. You couldn't possibly know more than an engineer. Didn't you know, they train you to be an expert in constitutional law while studying chemical engineering? Or maybe it was a liberty alliance night course!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks for posting this.
I tried to explain Art. I Sec. 8 to the whackadoodles during the HCR 6 nonsense. Unfortunately, they read one thing and look the rest up on wikipedia and other non-sources and "learn" from one another.
Sad really isn't it?

Wikipedia? (0.00 / 0)
I believe you mean Conservapedia.  As we all know, the people who control Wikipedia (the public, in general) is far too liberal.

You Gotta Love Those "Constitutionalists..." (0.00 / 0)
...who pick and choose what part of the U.S. or State Constitutions that they believe in.  But some people do that with their Bible too.  "Judge others from my point of view, and thus I shall be superior."

[I'm a former has-been House member and State Senator, but I keep "Rep." on my ID name for easy reference of previous posts.]

"Mega dittos"? (4.00 / 4)
On the other hand, now that Rush is the de facto GOP leader, it's nice to know the right-wing politico conference calls are available on the radio for all to hear.

No idea what it means, but hey, if its good enough for Rush...

dittos... (0.00 / 0)
For those of you not up on your Limbaugh lore, "Dittos" is the standard greeting when a caller gets to be on the show (which is not all that common an occurence, since the portion of the show which isn't advertising consists of 90% Limbaugh's monologues and 8% pre-recorded songs & skits.)  The idea is that this saves time by standing in for the usual repititive remarks about how much the caller loves the show and how thankful the host is that you listen to the show.

Kathy, ask him about the 14th Amendment (4.00 / 3)
No, not the Reconstruction era one we've come to know and love, the ORIGINAL one, whose ratification was covered up by a shadowy cabal that probably involved the Masons, Illuminnati, and the guys who run the Bowl Championship Series.

According to far-right mythology, the original 14th Amendment would strip the citizenship of any American who accepted a title of nobility from a foreign power.

Now, you might ask yourself, why would these guys care? Aah, but it comes down to folks like us, Kathy, evil shyster law-talkin' folks!

Some of the millitia types out west (Montana, I think) figured that since lawyers use "esquire" after our names, we have accepted titles of nobility from the British crown, thus we are not US citizens, and thus-thus, the district attorney and attorney general are all Her Majesty's loyal subjects and thus not eligible to hold their respective offices.

Now, one of my grandfathers spent time in a jail cell in Cork harbor for subversive activity. The other one was a runner for Michael Collins. Oh, and my great-grandmother had a modest arms cache under the living room rug. Something tells me that I'm not in line for a title of nobility any time soon, at least not if someone at MI-5 or MI-6 does a quick background check on my family.

Believe it or not, Itse, Marple, and the gang brought this issue to the House floor about five years ago. What it lacked in legislative merit it more than made up for in comedic value.

The Bowl Championship Series is a conspiracy (4.00 / 1)
The Bowl Championship Series is a conspiracy, albeit one with no particularly nefarious motivation.  It is no championship series.  The reason most college teams go to Bowls rather than to the playoffs is because the Bowls pay them a lot of money- plus half the teams get to end their seasons as winners.

UNH to its credit opts to be a member of the Football Championship Subdivision, and they have qualified for the eponymous 16-team championship tournament 6 years in a row.  This year they were knocked out in the round of 8 by the eventual national champion, Villanova.

Villanova, not Alabama or Texas, is the real national champion of college football.  The Crimson Tide & the Longhorns are fine teams, but they didn't enter the championship tournament.  That little game they play a couple weeks from now will be an interesting game--- but as far as I am concerned, it's just an exhibition game.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that they're moving to FBS (0.00 / 0)
The Colonial is the best conference in 1-AA/FCS. Last year, UNH beat Ball State, Richmond beat Virginia, someone knocked off Wake Forest, and JMU almost took down Maryland in College Park. They've shown they can compete at that level.

Unfortunately, that leaves teams like Northeastern and Hofstra in the lurch. I suspect that they know the change is coming, and this played a part in their decisions to drop football as a varsity sport.

Personally, i think it's silly. What has the Sun Belt Conference gained by being a Division 1 conference? A single, lower-tier bowl appearance that most people missed (Middle Tennessee beat Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl, in case you're wondering).

Careful Peter, as a member of the oldest fraternal organization around, I'll have my brother mason's ensure Arkansas' football team never leaves the tarmac!

As far as the comic value, you are correct! That is until they are lobbing it my way...can't wait for the start of another session!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

that's an unofficial trabscript, so... (0.00 / 0)
It is possible that Itse used the proper adjective "Democratic" but the persons who compiled the unofficial transcript wrote it down as "Democrat."  Itse actually is very bipartisan: he has friends on both sides of the aisle.

well not as many friends as he used to have... (0.00 / 0)
Rep. Rollo has many more friends than Dan had; in large part because he is a much more valuable member of the House, and also because he doesn't take things way past their logical conclusion.

Dan did use up a lot of political capital when he sponsored a bill last year which led to a rather scary riot in the gallery.  And it wasn't even a real bill, for crying out loud: it was just a resolution.  It was, as Mike pointed out on the floor, a resolution which a previous House had voted down.  (The first time was back in the 1790s and NO, there were no members who voted on it both times.  Although we do have one female state rep who was born BEFORE women had the right to vote.)

That riot started a chain of events which will culminate in one of next session's ruckuses.  The joint legislative facilities committee voted to ban guns in the whole state house.  This was in large part because of the aforementioned riot: many of the participants were armed.  There was some concern that they might not leave peacefully (although they eventually shut up and went away.)

The wingnuts are predictably going beserk over the gun ban, and the Republican leadership is backing them up.  This is a shame, because they are undermining not just the safety of the people's house, but also the people's trust in their public servants.  Firstly they claim that it is dangerous to be in the state house, and that we need to have our guns at the ready in case we have to shoot it out with criminals, which is nonsense.   The state house is well-policed and is a very safe environment.  Secondly they are impugning the integrity of the Speaker and of the General Court in general.  That's not good.
