Edwards Draws Large NH Crowds/Increases Lead in Iowa

Coming on the heels of a new Iowa poll released Thursday night showing John Edwards increasing his lead over Sen. Clinton to 5 points, he generated large crowds in New Hampshire over the last three days.

My favorite moment at yesterday's event in Canterbury, which drew over 325 supporters and interested voters, was when a self identified Obama tracker Josh(?)Hyman said he was 'depressed' by the size of the crowd.I asked who he was when he entered wearing a huge backpack, and he pleasantly identified himself. A very nice young man. This trip, starting with over 400 folks showing up at a house party in Nashua Saturday, and big crowds for Elizabeth Friday and Saturday morning, showed a renewed interest in the populist message of John Edwards.

Amazingly there was no coverage from the Monitor's Chelsea Conaboy, no pictures. There was coverage from Holly Ramer of the AP, and a bit in today's UL.

The common theme for the campaign workers was that more people were showing up to hear Sen. Edwards at every stop, more than were expected.
At the Anderson's in Canterbury 200 seat were set up on the lawn, in the quintessential
New England setting, in the center of Canterbury acroos from the Church. The seats were filled long before the event started and folks were standing under tress, looking for shade.

"depressed" at the enthusiasm for edwards, or "depressed" as though he was pretending to be an Edwards supporter and disappointed?

"time to ask Americans to be patriotic about something other than war"- John Edwards

It was (0.00 / 0)
a great, and tiring weekend!

Thanks to all of those who came and asked questions.  Special thanks to Nick for coming to interview Elizabeth and we can't wait to read it!

Some video and pics are up at www.johnedwards.com/nh

I just had a busy weekend.

I wanted to make sure I did her justice: she had so much to say!

I didn't get what the "depressed' comment was about any  clarification?

he was unhappy to see so many folks turn out for Edwards...

I think of that line a lot; I had forgotten it was Heinlein.

I've only seen the line by itself. Stranger is on my summer reading list, though, so I'll let you know.

Witnesses (4.00 / 1)
Do you remember the fair witnesses in that book? I always wanted to be a fair witness, but I am too opinionated and speculative, not to mention prone to conspriacy theories. But, fair witnesses would be really good to have - there should be one stationed in the White House at all times.

And now that I have revealed that I used to be a science fiction geek, I will return to the topic at hand and tell you that although I was away this weekend, I heard that the Londonderry Edwards event was really good. That review came from someone who is not with a candidate.

Could not have said it better. Edwards was on.

"That guy (Edwards) constantly benches above his weight," was the way a top level GOP campaign strategist described it to us a few weeks ago.

And no one would be foolish enough to forget the "Elizabeth Factor".

Fast forward to late July 2007 (today) in New Hampshire. Where, at Mack's Apples in Londonderry, John Edwards wrapped up a 3-day, 13 stop swing through the Granite State with a town hall meeting.

300+ people showed up. And they didn't care to ask about haircuts or mansions or fundraising (staff) process stories.

No surprise there. Granite Staters are (generally) content to leave that drivel to the national media.

Mack's New Hampshire voters wanted to talk about health care, the War in Iraq, education, college loans, the environment and what a disaster the Bush Administration has been.

Good (0.00 / 0)
Edwards is making a major effort in NH, many will be seeing that. Seeing him in person so fired up about all the issues, is the best.

All votes should count - one vote/one person.

Seems wonderfully familiar (0.00 / 0)
How great to read about John Edwards' splendid showing and reception there in another all-important early state he should, on merits, be able to win, in order to shock the nation and begin to put away the Democratic nomination that was not supposed to be his quite early, one-two, boom, boom! I've been following him here in Iowa forever, and never could see why he wouldn't catch on over there in the Granite State, which I know to have the same sort of basic, down-to-earth, no-fluff-and-all-substance people we do! Who has the solutions? the ideas? the commitment and passion? the integrity and life record of successful service to the needs of ordinary people and the powerless? Just listen to John, follow him and challenge the punditry and the corporatist establishment, and we, the people can pull a miracle and take back over this once-great and beautiful land and make it, once again, the beacon of justice and fairness and goodness to the world. That's John Edwards' life-long commitment, and I'm so glad to see you, our worthy co-custodians of the early vetting process, are catching onto it! Yes, John! Yea, New Hampshire! Let's unite and win for America and take our country back big-time in '08!!
