Say No To Gopher Moat Politics. Call First Thing Thursday.

by: Mike Caulfield

Worried about unopposed executive power?

Emboldened by their party's newly won majority, Wonder Twins Chucky Schumer and Dianne Feinstein right wrongs and protect the weak by applying the maximum force that the new Democratic Mandate gives them to constrain the Executive Branch! Check it out:

Wonder Twin Powers Activate, indeed!

You could have used your powers to turn into a dinosaur, or another bear to fight him off -- or you, an ice cage! But instead you did a gopher moat...

Reject Gopher Moat Politics. The markup session for the "FISA" bill is Thursday, and it's important they know we are watching. Tell the Wonder Twins and all the others that with retroactive immunity in the FISA bill, this is just another gopher moat.

That's their lesson.

Note: The New Adventures of the Wonder Twins first aired in 2002 on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. If anyone wanted to redub it, well, that would just be awesome.

Is gopher moat politics an original phrase? (0.00 / 0)
I googled it and got nothing.  If it's yours, then I move to award Mike the congressional medal of analogy coining.

Where do we go from here?

Gopher Moat Politics, the phrase (0.00 / 0)
Was born in my head today about 5pm -- so feel free to use with abandon.

It is an uncanny video, isn't it?

I don't know if anyone has used that video in a political analogy before (0.00 / 0)
It came out in 2002, back when we were thinking that once we got the power things would be different.

[ Parent ]
I had to watch it six or seven times to believe (0.00 / 0)
it was a parody.  Too well done!

I don't think I've come across too many more memes that accurately capture what's going on politically than this.

How did you find this clip? And are they serious?

I found it through some people in edu-blogging (0.00 / 0)
Where it's making the rounds. I guess it was originally done as a joke for the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. There were a couple other ones in the series, like where the Twins try to hide from someone in a video store, etc.

But recently a friend posted it --- when I saw it, all I could  think of was Wonder Twins Schumer and Fienstein saving the world with their gopher moats (and us, the public, in that last funeral scene).

Yeah, it's almost too perfect, isn't it? We gave them powers to protect the Constitution.

And they built us a gopher moat.

I hope to get gopher moat politics into the lexicon.

Clearly you need to throw this up on (0.00 / 0)
some of the national blogs.

Where do we go from here?
