Gregg Votes Against SCHIP... Again

by: Dean Barker

Fri Jan 30, 2009 at 05:34:29 AM EST

Some 10 hours later, the Granite State Democrat [Jeanne Shaheen] and Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, both Republicans, voted for the $32.8 billion, 41?2-year expansion of the Children's Health Insurance Program, ensuring an additional four million children of parents who cannot afford private health care are covered.

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., voted against the measure, saying he supports the program but protested the Democratic-authored legislation for "grossly" distorting the aims of SCHIP.

No, this isn't the first time Gregg voted to block more health care for children, either.

Somebody get this man out of the senate.  Wouldn't it be great if we could, say, just pluck him out of the seat with some non-electoral plum post...?

No, it wouldn't be great (4.00 / 1)
To steal a phrase from Tom Friedman, we live in a flatter, hotter, and more crowded world, and we need an economic leadership team that understands that reality.

Judd Gregg does not fit that description.

I want a Commerce Secretary who will be an active player in revamping the American economy, someone who understands the interrelatedness of education and competitiveness, someone who grasps the connection between trade and efforts to alleviate Third World poverty, someone who is versed in the concerns of nascent industries such as nanotech and biotech.

Judd is an old Republican bean counter, without an innovative bone in his body.

America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. -Harry Truman
