Is Ted Gatsas The Worst Person In the World?

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Sun Feb 08, 2009 at 07:53:10 AM EST

(Yes. - promoted by Dean Barker)

In today's Union Leader, there is story about how several members of the Manchester Building and Planning Departments are taking much smaller raises than they are entitled to in order to expedite a merger of the departments.

State Senator Ted Gatsas, who unfortunately also serves as the Alderman from Ward 2 in Manchester, did not thank the employees when asked for comment. This is how the Union Leader describes his reaction:

"I think in these times, people should be very happy they still have a job," he said.

Uh - Senator? Have you no idea how churlish, rude, ungrateful and just plain mean you sound?

Republican Senator Ted Gatsas - doing his Mr. Potter imitation, Senator Ted Gatsas: perhaps the Worst Person In The WOOOORRRRLLLDDDDD!!!!

hey, Ted cares about the middle class (4.00 / 1)
The good Senator is a sport and champion of the middle class. here's the proof- he is proposing to cut our state's interest and dividend tax in half. To quote Senator Ted: "This means someone with $100,000 of investment profits would pay the state $2,500 less. This could help a senior afford to pay their property tax bill."

Don't you agree in this economic crisis that it is important that we help the long-suffering middle class folks who are struggling on $100,000 a year in  interest and dividends income? Shouldn't this be a priority of the Governor and legislature? (As an aside, to make $100K in interest and dividends, you need a minimum of $2 million in assets, and more likely $4 million or more. That's Ted's idea of the middle class.)

According to Landrigan today.... (0.00 / 0)
Gatsas is a possible candidate for congress in the first CD if CSP runs for senate. Illusions and delusions of grandeur.

Although the idea of seeing him trounced in a Republican primary makes me smile.

The idea all along has been to make people (4.00 / 1)
glad they even have a job since the ideal, having people do what they are told for free, is increasingly unlikely to be achieved.

How can you validate that the hierarchical organization of human society is "natural" (i.e. not the consequence of significant and socially valued achievement), if some people aren't in a position to dominate everyone else by virtue of their natural endowments?  If some people are naturally superior, then others have to be naturally inferior.  That's why any effort to marginalize the traditional marriage is un-natural.  It violates the proper order of the male being dominant and the female subordinate.

"Grrrrrrrrr...... (4.00 / 1)
Get off my lawn!"

Now it is not just Sununu Sr. imitating Clint Eastwood in Grand Torino.

Teddy's tens of millions have warped his senses.

Have you written a letter to the editor today? Have you donated today? Have you put up signs? Have you made calls? Have you talked to your neighbors?

My Senator (0.00 / 0)
apparently thinks we owe the Bush Administration a debt of gratitude for hollowing out the economy.

Not in the shot

Ted Gatsas Should Be Glad... (0.00 / 0)
Ted Gatsas should be glad that HE has a job.  I do like the guy, but he votes so wrong on the issues.  Maybe he should live a few days in someone else's shoes.  If he asked me, I could think of some jobs that might teach him some lessons about how hard it is to make ends meet.

Paging Alderman Sullivan (0.00 / 0)
Time to rename Gatsas Field in Manchester's Ward 1.

Dude (0.00 / 0)
Gatss is in Ward 2.

My people are in south east Manchester's Ward 8, not the "Exclusive" North End (Ward 1). Betsi DeVries is my senator/alderman!

Gatsas is an Alderman from Ward 2, but he represents 1 in the Senate as well. (0.00 / 0)
And the field named after him is in Ward 1, across from the Puritan.

I figured Peter would want to get on that, after his fighting the good fight on the Judd Gregg Bridge.

don't be so crabby sir (0.00 / 0)
we on BH are more polite than you may imagine

I'm not crabby. (0.00 / 0)
And I have a very good imagination for this ;)

Oh, THAT Sullivan (0.00 / 0)
I thought you were telling me to run against Gatsas for alderman!

Gatsas will have a race this year (4.00 / 3)
Ward 2 had long been a Republican-leaning ward and now boasts a Democratic registration edge and several Democratic officeholders who would make great candidates for Alderman against Teddy.

For two cycles, Gatsas has been unopposed for Alderman.  Not this time.

I hear State Rep. Bob Thompson is chomping at the bit to challenge Gatsas, and people are talking up former reps. Dave Scannell and Linda Garrish, as well as Bill Whitmore (who lost a state rep race by a dozen votes in 2008).  Other dream candidates would be Jim Craig or labor leader Bill O'Neil.

Oh, and let's not leave out BH-er Sean Doyle who would be great for Alderman or School Board in Ward 2!

Doyle For.... (4.00 / 1)
Thanks for the vote of confidence Chris.

I think Dave would be a great candidate for Alderman.

And I think that Jim Craig will make a great State Senator one day.

As for School Board, who knows what the future holds.

What about Pete Duffy? (0.00 / 0)
Does he still live in Ward 2? He's a smart, gutsy, and independent-minded guy who would be a real asset to the city.

"THAT" wasn't meant as bad about you, it meant "oh, that was rather self absorbed to assume that if a Sullivan is mentioned, it means ME."

Both Sullivans ROCK! (4.00 / 2)
Both Sullivans ROCK!  In slightly different ways, of course, to protect the innocents.  Can you just imagine Portsmouth with two Marchands, or two Norellis, or two McEacherns, or -- scary as it is, two Splaines?  Manchester must be proud.

There's a "you might be Irish" list floating around the intertubes. One part of it says you might be Irish if you know Sully, Mac, or Murphy. You probably know Sully MacMurphy.

Believe it or not, we are now developing a policy on this (4.00 / 1)
The Judd Gregg bridge debacle actually has had a positive impact. The city will now have a policy for naming things. It looks like Alderman Lopez heard how upset Hamsters were about the 10:30 PM vote a while back.

Never say never, but (0.00 / 0)
Naming things after still-active politicians who are likely to be candidates in future elections should be an exceptional circumstances-type deal.  Unless there's a New Hampshirite President, it deserves a great deal of scrutiny, and maybe even a supermajority.

Agree entirely (0.00 / 0)
I think there was enough political blowback from the Gregg thing to force people to recognize this.
