Sununu Dynasty Holding NHGOP Hostage, Part II

DiStaso:
But for the moment, Republican activists remain enamored of John E. Sununu. The message consistently in GOP circles is that Sununu has first dibs on a candidacy, but they're hoping that he sends a message relatively soon on his plans so that others can begin raising money if he's not interested.
Or, you could have learned that here last Sunday, and that John & John are going to leave everyone hanging until "sometime around the summer," at which point, of course, candidates not named Sununu will be at a distinct money raising, name rec disadvantage.

What DiStaso does say explicitly for the first time, but doesn't surprise anyone with a pulse, is that both Fergus Cullen and Dukakis supporter John Stephen are gunning for Carol's seat if she runs for senate. But making plans to primary Bestani if she does are going to be hampered by the above.

Who among the elephants is going to openly cross the Father, not knowing the Son's plans? And so on as it trickles down the lower races.

It's like a TeeVee tele-novella.

Right. It wasn't just Reagan that made the transition from Hollywood to Washington. (0.00 / 0)
He brought the whole entertainment/public relations/propaganda industry with him.  That's why I refer to our capital as Wallywood.

Political campaigns are being run exactly like a movie project.  It's all image and sizzle and hype to put together a "package" for investors and then it's market tested, before a script is even developed.  We might be astounded at how many people were willing to entrust Bernard Madoff with what amounted to billions of dollars, but most of the investors had probably gotten used to participating in much more risky movie "concepts" the vast majority of which never come to the screen.

Since most political campaigns, like most movie and TV projects are destined to fail, it seems that a similar expectation of a big pay-off for those that succeed has taken hold.
At the risk of being tedious, let me suggest that this is another consequence of going along with the illusion that elections are about the candidates, rather than the voters.
