Family Motto?

John E. Sununu, 11/26/08:
"It hasn't fundamentally changed the fact that New Hampshire is a center-right state"
John H. Sununu, 03/12/09:
Well, New Hampshire is still, I believe, a right-of-center state.

John H. is very much on message for the rest of that long, interesting interview, but I do confess I chuckled a little when the former governor, legendary for his animus both here and in Washington, decried the "politics of personal destruction" of the NHDP.  That, and his hilarious attempt to portray the GOP as the party of environmentalism.

The "Center" has moved. . . . (0.00 / 0)
. . . and, from where the Sununus are perched, they couldn't see it with a pair of high-powered binoculars.

Hmmm (0.00 / 0)
I think I'll choose to take this to mean that the official Republican position is that either A, they know and admit that they themselves are not with the center of the country, or B, they are very badly confused on what 'right-of-center' means and are standing righteously over a map poking at North American and saying, "See? Here's the center of the U.S. and we're to the right of it!"

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!

There is a sense in which they are correct (4.00 / 1)
New Hampshire IS right of center if we are talking about a libertarian axis. The opposition to REAL ID and mandatory seat belt laws, even today, puts us on the individual rights side of center.

The problem for the Sununi is that the GOP, statewide and nationwide, is not at all libertarian. Schiavo, abortion rights, REAL ID, domestic spying - the GOP strongly supports all of that.

If you look along a sort of "hedonist - Puritan" axis instead, NH is "left" of center.
