NHGOP Jobs Plan

Now I get it... when they said they were focused on Job, Jobs, Jobs, they meant jobs for Lawyers.

Today, Cheshire Medical Center (CMC) joined nine other New Hampshire health facilities and New Hampshire Medicaid patients to file suit against the State of New Hampshire seeking "declaratory and injunctive relief" from budgeted cuts in Medicaid reimbursements. The lawsuit was filed against Nicholas A. Toumpas, in his official capacity as Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, seeking relief from dramatic new NH Medicaid reimbursement reductions

The GOP is going to to have a hard time hiding from the chaos and destruction they have caused nationally and here in NH.

Public relations battle (4.00 / 1)
The cuts to the system are punitive and are going to reap catastrophic results.  Closing community health centers and laying off staff is going to reduce access to health care for most NH residents.  But even this will not be enough to close the gap in funding - that will happen through cost-shifting to health insurers and plan holders.

As I said in the diary I created about this same topic, this lawsuit is just as much about letting the public know whose fault it is, as it is about changing the structure of the budget.  I'm guessing that's why there has been no comment from the GOP - I don't think they know quite what to do.

In the immediate aftermath of Since the start of the financial crisis, the Fed/Treasury lent, spent, or guaranteed $28 $29 trillion to save the banking system.

SHAME. (4.00 / 1)
Other services that could be closed or suspended to Medicaid patients include neonatal intensive care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Children's Hospital; the helicopter rescue program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock; and the Exeter Healthcare center, the state's only sub-acute rehabilitative care facility that accepts long-term ventilator-dependent patients, the suit said.

SHAME.

Ah, a return to the good old days -- (0.00 / 0)
when premature babies were kept warm at home with irons heated on the stove.  The spouse still has a scar on his left hip where the iron in his cot was just a bit too hot. Since he wasn't expected to live, nobody bothered with a birth certificate either. Good thing he got a license to drive and a passport before he was required to prove he'd survived.

Since last winter (4.00 / 1)
I've been saying that it looked to me like the only jobs that this legislature was going to create were jobs for lawyers.  It will be interesting to watch NH unemployment numbers as this budget takes effect.

Conservatives seem to think that reality is like a light switch with just (0.00 / 0)
two settings, on or off. I think they're about to discover that obligations, once entered into, can't just be rescinded on a whim. Going back is not just forward in reverse.

There are real job loses (0.00 / 0)
I've heard that Elliot will lay off 200 full time employees; St Joe's lay off will be determined in the next 2-3 weeks.

I haven't heard about the other hospitals yet.

Community Health Centers (0.00 / 0)
White Mtn Community Health Centers Executive Director wrote a Letter to the Editor in the Conway Daily Sun last week explaining what was going to happen now that they lost $100,000 in direct state funding, never mind cuts in Medicaid reimbursements.  They're trying to avoid layoffs by cutting back on staff hours but it will result in delays across the board, you know 'rationing'.

More work for lawyers. (0.00 / 0)
