Is Chuck Hagel running to be Vice President...as a Democrat?

by: Douglas E. Lindner

Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 18:26:38 PM EST

After so much talk in recent years about a cross-party Presidential ticket, and widespread reports that John Kerry wanted John McCain to be his running mate in '04, is anybody else getting the sense, considering Senator Hagel's remarks in recent months about the war and this administration, that he's positioning himself to be the running mate of a Democratic nominee?  And would he be a good choice for us?

Maybe if Iraq was the only issue (0.00 / 0)
Hagel is appealing on the basis of his stance on Iraq, but a look at his broader record shows him to be much too far to the right to be paired with any Democrat in the general election. I don't have any particular litmus tests, nor do I subscribe to the "report cards" issued by the various lobbying organizations, but in aggregate Hagel seems to be a stand-up guy with whom I disagree on many, and probably most, issues.

Retiring.

SGS is Jack Mitchell of Lowell, MA. The symbolism of the "sleeping giant" is based on my HOPE for America.

Did you not hear his comments the other day about how this is the most arrogant and incompetent administration of all time? (0.00 / 0)

I should specify though (0.00 / 0)
I'm not saying Hagel IS trying to be on the Democratic ticket, only that it's worth bringing up.
