Nearing the End: Dems Ohio Debate Airs Tuesday 9-10:30/Open Thread

by: JonnyBBad

Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 13:03:39 PM EST

Don't miss the make or break moment for this cycle. It seems like its been going on forever, but it will soon be over for another 4 years dontcha think ? Fatigue or resolve, capitulation and inner awareness, or backbone and inspiration, it could be a barn burner. Barack may be beyond beating, but the Clintons never give.

MSNBC will telecast a debate between Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama Tuesday, Feb. 26, live from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, 9-10:30 p.m. ET.  NBC's Brian Williams will moderate and be joined by "Meet the Press" moderator and NBC News Washington Bureau Chief Tim Russert. It will be streamed live on msnbc.com.

"A lot of her friends are just feeling, 'How could this be happening to her?' " said James Carville, a friend of the Clintons and a former strategist to Mr. Clinton. "It's just hard to understand. She is a very sympathetic person. I hope it turns around for her."

Frank Rich: The Audacity of Hopelessness

The Clinton camp was certain that its moneyed arsenal of political shock-and-awe would take out Barack Hussein Obama in a flash. The race would "be over by Feb. 5," Mrs. Clinton assured George Stephanopoulos just before New Year's. But once the Obama forces outwitted her, leaving her mission unaccomplished on Super Tuesday, there was no contingency plan. She had neither the boots on the ground nor the money to recoup.

Where's Rumsfeld when you need him ? We don't need no stinking contingency plans....

"But it's the Clinton strategists, not the Obama voters, who drank the Kool-Aid. The Obama campaign is not a vaporous cult; it's a lean and mean political machine that gets the job done. The Clinton camp has been the slacker in this race, more words than action, and its candidate's message, for all its purported high-mindedness, was and is self-immolating."

Is anybody else (4.00 / 1)
suffering from debate fatigue--primary fatigue?

Raise your hands if you think if Obama had lost 11 in a row, everyone would be saying "he's toast; he should get out".

Also, Hillary's most recent meltdown was embarassing. Representative Splaine has turned out to be downright prescient. He should have been getting the zillions of dollars now pocketed by Marc Penn, advisor to Blackwater.

Hillary would have been better advised reading Rep. Splaine's posts here on Blue Hampshire. Not to be mean about it, but I'm glad she didn't. She's brilliant and talented, but she shouldn't be President now. No Clinton Restoration, please! She can use her many talents in the Senate or start a progressive think tank or something.

I'm raising my hand. (4.00 / 1)

The consultants' dirty little secret. (0.00 / 0)
Okay, maybe not so secret to many here.  But certainly secret to the great majority of candidates.

Campaign and strategy advice from fabulously expensive consultants is not any more likely to be accurate or useful than that from a random well-informed and mentally stable political blogger of roughly the same political persuasion.

And the aforementioned blogger is one hell of a lot more likely to admit error or ignorance.

I'm waiting for Tuesday night (4.00 / 1)
Although it is inopportunely smack dab in the middle of guys night on American Idol... what's a girl to do?  (We don't have tivo or DVR)...

I can't wait for Clinton and Obama to get in to a "debate" about who has slimier advertising techniques.  Do you think Barack wil bring up the choice mailers, the 3 Trillion Dollar Man, or will he simply look her in the eye and say, "Hello pot, I'm the kettle, you're black!" (or maybe he'll say silver or copper, so as not to think it's racially divisive)

"Shame on you Barack Obama."  I'm sorry, I think she loses 5 votes every time that maternalistic clip airs.

Feeling hopeful since 2004...now "Secretary" of the New Boston Democratic Caucus

Ready on Day 55? (0.00 / 0)
The Rumsfeld parallel is striking.

I crack up every time I here the slogan "Ready on Day 1."

The Iowa Caucus was Day 1.

As the Penn "Blue Rovean" negativity continues, with barbs about "on the job training", lets all bear in mind that Barack's learning curve seems to be parabolic; that point is reflected in his poll numbers.
Senator Clinton's learning curve? Flat, like her polls.

In Cleveland, when it comes, and it will.
I hope he answers with this...

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

The only people who are ready to be President on Day 1 are incumbent Presidents. (0.00 / 0)
And incumbent or not, you know what every President does on Day 1?  Take an oath, give a speech, go to some parties.  The whole argument is null.

That's not accurate. (4.00 / 6)
George W. Bush was not ready to be President on Jan. 20, 2005.

Director's Cut (0.00 / 0)
Well, well, well.

I saw the daily. Found out later that Bill and JRE helped with the script, but was moved by the performance at the time.

Now we get the Director's Cut:

To hell with Tim Russert, Sen. Clinton should book a date with James Lipton. Mr. Buffenbarger must be so proud.

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

Reuters reports that according to their State Director, (0.00 / 0)
Obama for America has 125,000 volunteers in the State of Texas.  A hundred twenty five thousand volunteers in one state.  Can that be real?
