Words Don't Matter (if you're a Clinton)

by: Douglas E. Lindner

Remember how Obama is only words and words don't matter?  True to that sentiment, it appears words do not, in fact, mean much to Senator Clinton:

CBS did a story on this... (4.00 / 2)
A friend emailed me the YouTube link to a CBS news story on this.  They provided additional footage of the CBS reporter interviewing Hillary on the plane and really expands the on-the-ground film footage that you provide above.

CBS points out "If you're going to rely on memories, you better make sure the memory matches the video."

Feeling hopeful since 2004...

Memories are like a handful of sand (0.00 / 0)
I don't think Hillary "lied" as so many complain. I do think she mixed up a few memories since it happened over ten years ago. We tend to gloss over things that we have done that far back. And we do tend to bundle similar events together. And it seems more likely that she was mixing up two different trips that she has taken into rough territory.

Ask yourself what memories you have from college or high school that are still perfect in your recollections that you haven't embellished or remembered unclearly. I'll bet more than one of you cannot recall the face of your date to the prom or what you and your friends used to do for fun in college without tripping over that fine line where facts surrounding the event need a bit of propping up since so much is forgotten from that time.

But in Obams's case, words do matter. He uses them over and over again without any challenge to the specifics or the experience to prove that he can do what he says. That experience is worth more than good intentions when you are in Washington.

I think you maybe a troll (0.00 / 0)
Are you suggesting that Hillary doesn't clearly remember bringing her daughter into an airport under potential sniper fire.
I remember when I hit an ice patch on the road and I swerved with my wife in the car in 1988. I saw both of our lives flash before my eyes.

Oh, BTW:
Tuzla in Iowa

I forgot to link this yesterday, but my colleague Michael Calderone noted that Hillary Clinton has been talking about her trip to Bosnia for a while, to the extent that reporters were making Sinbad jokes while on the trail in Iowa:
Over the past day, journalists present on the trip have provided details that show Clinton's account wasn't accurate. But why did this take so long for the press to refute?
For months, Clinton has been retelling this Bosnia story, an anecdote journalists often found dubious when speaking privately.

When I was riding on the Clinton press bus through Iowa one day in late December, the Sinbad story had become a running joke.

That night, when a campaign staffer asked the traveling press which movie they wanted to watch on the late-night ride back to the Des Moines Marriott, one reporter called out, "First Kid." (In that movie from 1996 - ironically, the same year as the Bosnia trip - Sinbad plays a former-boxer-turned-Secret-Service-agent in charge of protecting the president's kid).
Indeed, while campaigning in Iowa, the Sinbad story was published in newspapers such as Newsday, The Washington Post and The New York Observer.
[snip]
Of course, reporters could have gone back to the 1996 articles detailing the trip, or interview those present. But this might be another instance where video was pivotal. Similarly, the Jeremiah Wright story, which was festering for over a year among reporters, didn't really pick up steam until the YouTube-ready videos were made public.

Sheesh! Troll? Puh-lease.

And I am glad you and your wife were not hurt in your memorable incident. The fact is when people try to remember all the facts on something that was only one single part of a rather hectic lifestyle you will simply gloss over a few details or combine them with other incidents.

Harping on it, like a troll, doesn't make it any different. I don't appreciate it when people rant over and over about a gaffe when there are more important issues in this race to discuss.

The fact is (0.00 / 0)
Hillary has used the incident to bolster a bogus claim that she crossed the "CIC threshold" and she has a fiduciary responsibility to her supporters not to screw up simple facts, especialy when they are layed out as bona fides. Many prefer not to imagine our nation run in the manner that she has run her campaign.

You are polite Wynter, I'll give you that. Regardless of your persona, please make an effort not to parrot the exhausted double speak puking forth from Clinton central.

There are plenty of NH political topics for you to sink your teeth into. To defend Clinton, at this point, is tricky business, as most here are resenting her continuing her run.

The "democratic world" is holding its breath until we have a nominee. That has consequences, Wynter. We need to identify our lineup, so the coaches can come up with a playbook.

I don't think you're trolling. I think you're ignoring the obvious. (0.00 / 0)
Unless you've spent a number of years in the service, I just don't see how one could have fuzzy memories of a near-death experience.  The fact that she has a fuzzy memory of it proves that it was not one.

I am a cynic... (0.00 / 0)
but I trust Hillary much more than I do Obama.

I know politicians lie. It's a simple trait of the species. It's what they lie about that worries me the most. I voted for Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 because they knew what to do to get the job done. But the folksy, plainspoken, gent from Texas was more acceptable to the dolts we call voters in this country.

I don't want to vote for a new guy with new ideas and new words that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I want to vote for someone I know will do the job thats needed. And I don't mean Obama.

I stood by and watched this country shoot itself in the foot back in 2000 and 2004. Do I want to sit by and let them do it all over again in 2008? Nope.

I am a cynical person, but I see much more problems if we vote our emotions and go with the new guy with the smart look and the sweet words. I'd rather go with the person that has been through the meat grinder and came out alive. And I am not talking about that peice of grizzled beef jerky, John McCain. I mean Clinton.

And the idea of continuing this race for a few more weeks isn't bad unless you make it bad. We could use a lot more press coverage from this primary to overshadow the McCain machine. The less heard from him the better!

Simply saying,
Wynter

Hillary can't win a General election, and it's her fault for what she's done in the past few months.  Want to get a Democratic President?  Support Obama.

a man from North Conway area was the trip director for Hillary's Tuzla trip and he worked for the Clintons for 9 years...in the video he's the first one off the plane before Hillary. He confirms Sinbad's and the pilot's accounts of the landing. No snipers, no corkscrew...even more telling, when Hillary came to North Conway to do a campaign event he did not drive two miles to see her...he did come to hear John Edwards
Thank you Chuckster !
