Final Slate of Convention Delegates Chosen

by: Dean Barker

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 19:16:12 PM EDT

This has been covered here, there, and everywhere, but I thought it might be useful to sum it up, along with a copy of the press release that Michael Brunelle sent on behalf of the NHDP (email, and below the fold):

There are 30 delegates going to the Democratic convention from the Granite State (and four alternates).  Here's the breakdown:

Clinton: 12 (9 + 2 supers + 1 add-on)
Edwards: 4
Obama: 12 (9 + 3 supers)
Unpledged supers: 2 (John Lynch and Ray Buckley)
Clinton's supers are Gaetan DiGangi, Anita Freedman, and Kathy Sullivan's the add-on, while Obama has Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes, and Martha Fuller-Clark.

Feels so odd to be tying the bow on the NH Primary like this after such a long process.  And how reflective of the nation we are in our delegate count! Obama and Clinton are tied. Yet the former has a virtually insurmountable lead in delegates won, states won, the popular vote, and fundraising.  There's a strong argument to be made that the remaining unpledged supers as well as those Edwardians not feeling loyalty to John ought to be swayed by that reality. And the latter happens to be the candidate who won our state.  Just as strong an argument can be made for that person to get the majority of our delegates because of the simple fact that she won.

Have fun with that, Governor, Chairman!

if I've got any of that wrong.

Burling and Sullivan are both add on delegates? (0.00 / 0)
Both Freedman and DiGangi maintain their SD status?

[ Parent ]
Two things going on, I believe (4.00 / 1)
  1. The two New Hampshire seats in the DNC, held through the convention by Freedman and DiGangi. Sullivan elected to replace Freedman, Burling elected to replace DiGangi. That transition happens AFTER the Denver convention ballots.
  2. The delegation to the Denver convention. Burling is in it as a state Senator / party leader - NOT as a DNC member. Sullivan is in it as an 'add-on' delegate - NOT as a DNC member.

oh .. (0.00 / 0)
I thought this would shift out potentially one or two Clinton votes at the convention.

!Wrong!

Thanks for the reply!

Yes. (0.00 / 0)
elwood has it right.

For 2008: Burling is an Edwards delegate (awaiting release, presumably, and Kathy an add-on delegate who happens to be a Clinton supporter.

For after 2008: Burling and Sullivan won DNC delegate status from DiGangi and Freedman's seats.

I admire Gov. Lynch and Ray not being pledged (0.00 / 0)
I am sure they are getting calls from Clinton and Obama about who they are going to endorse.

Got to admire telling two of the parties most powerful Senators they are not endorsing yet.

Watch out, James Carville is lurking around....
