"Brilliant." Local Experts Think You're Stoopid, Too

by: Dean Barker

ShameBoldface mine:
Neutral experts had a similar take on Palin. Jennifer Donahue, political director of the Institute of Politics at St. Anselm, called the move completely unexpected and brilliant.

"She's a working mother," Donahue said, "she's acceptable to the conservatives in the party based of her stance on social issues, (and) she gives women a reason to engage in this election because there's a woman on the ticket. They have just done the single thing that could reset this race after Obama's speech."

I, too think the choice is completely...
Here's a finding from Gallup: Among Democratic women -- including those who may be disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination -- 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.
...unexpected...:
From Rasmussen: Some 38% of men said they were more likely to vote for McCain now, but only 32% of women. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president -- but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.
and brilliant, too!
"Do you agree or disagree with the following statements?"

"John McCain chose Sarah Palin because he felt the time had come to nominate a woman."

Agree 43
Disagree 56

"John McCain chose Sarah Palin because he thought having a woman on the ticket would help him get elected."

Agree 75
Disagree 25

More expert analysis on how women voters think here.

And of course, those numbers were taken before the cascade of scandals unfolding right now.

She likes earmarks (4.00 / 1)
She ran for office with a plan to raise sales taxes, she used Eminent Domain to (over)pay for the hockey arena.

And now her lawyer the lawyer she hired with state funds is complaining that the investigation of her apparent abuse of power with the state troopers is a "witchhunt [like] Ken Starr".

"A witch hunt like Ken Starr" (4.00 / 1)
Does that mean Governor Palin acknowledges the fact that the Clinton impeachment was a completely baseless political stunt meant to undermine President Clinton's ability to govern and his place in history?

I'm guessing no.

Quotes from the NYT (0.00 / 0)
Perusing the Times story on Palin, or more correctly, one of the Times stories,, I found a couple of odd quotes. First, this one from Palin's advisor Tucker Eskew.

"We are going to flush the toilet," said Tucker Eskew, who is a senior adviser to Ms. Palin, describing the campaign's plans for Labor Day, when much of the nation was busy with family and social activities.

Then somehow, the reporter dug up NH's own Fergus Cullen, who came up with this deep analysis.

"I am a high school coach, I interact with 17-year-olds every day," said Fergus Cullen, the New Hampshire Republican chairman. "And there are a lot of parents out there of 17-year-old high school students. If anything, this is a reminder that Sarah Palin is a real person who has the same experiences that regular Americans do."

"There is no such thing as the perfect candidate," he continued. "She is an outstanding choice, very helpful to the ticket."

I have to add that though Obama is being gracious in admonishing the media to back off families, it shows the complete lack of judgment on Palin's and McCain's parts.

Palin had to know the media would lap up the teen pregnancy story. Illicit sex, babies, and Elmer Gantry rolled into one. She knew her daughter was pregnant and accepted this position anyway. Either she's very stupid or very reckless, never mind selfish  and the same for McCain.

I may be alone in this, but Sarah Palin is to blame for dragging her daughter and daughter's boyfriend (he's all over the Daily News and the blogosphere now) through the mud.Nobody else.

What's the deal with Donahue? (0.00 / 0)
Every time I've seen her quoted, she spouts what could best be described as the Judd Gregg/Tom Rath/GOP Establishment line.

What's her background? Did she work for Gregg at some point in time?

America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. -Harry Truman

I'm curious too (0.00 / 0)
Is the IoP going downhill, or are reporters just choosing the most ridiculous quotes?

It could be the second, you know. Often you get talked to for a half hour and they pull something you don't even remember saying.

Still, a disturbing pattern recently.

So here's some more expert analysis I found:

Either Central Casting and Candid Camera have teamed up to trick cable television, or this is the best real choice and the best hidden secret the republicans have made in decades.

In decades!

secrecy, subterfuge, deception and intimidation.  He recognize a soul-mate in Palin.  End of story.
