(It's always good to keep an eye on the polling going on, and I think we are going to hear a lot more about gambling over the next 2 years as a potential "solution" to the ed funding issue. - promoted by Mike Hoefer)
Just had a lengthy phone poll questionnaire on behalf of an outfit called "TargetPoint Consulting" (801-623-4690), with a couple dozen questions on NH state taxes, which revenue sources I favored, what services I would be upset about if they were cut, etc.
At first I was thinking maybe it was coming directly from NHAC, until they got to a number of detailed and pointed questions concerning tax revenues derived from expanding video gambling at Rockingham (poor guy had trouble pronouncing "Rockingham" - at that point I guessed he weren't from around heah), with language obviously pushing in the direction of favoring such a proposal.
It wasn't exactly a push poll, but I would characterize it as "push-y"
Some of the questions were incredibly stupid. "Do you favor cutting spending or increasing revenues to balance budgets" was one doozy, another was whether I would want my state rep to vote yes or no on expanded video gambling when it comes up for discussion in Concord (I told him that I would have to read the proposal before deciding and therefore I didn't have an answer at this time).
The end of the script required the young chap to ask political/voting questions (Dem or Rep, O or M, etc.). Finally, he asked whether I supported Shaheen or Sununu, and I almost fell out of the chair when after getting my answer he remarked, "those people sure have funny names".
When he was done, I asked the very amiable young man which company it was again that he was calling from, and he said, "Um, was it American something? I call for a few different ones, let me go back to the beginning - no, it was TargetPoint".
Poor fellow must have been low bid on this gig.
Would be interesting to find out exactly which particular gambling interest was paying for this spin-o-rama, but a quick Google reveals that TargetPoint Consulting is based in Alexandria, VA, and that in the past, the principals have been closely associated with the usual suspects.
I'm shocked, shocked, to find out that they may be interested in gambling in our fair state. God knows they've done enough of it on the national level!
