NHGOP files suit alleging lack of "reasonable access" at same day registration tables

by: shoeempress

The NHGOP filed suit today against the state charging that thier "challengers' were denied "reasonable access" to the same day registration tables.  A hearing was held in Hillsborough Superior Court but no information as to a decision is presently available.

I'm not sure where the idea (0.00 / 0)
of poll watching the registration process comes from.

There are laws ensuring that parties and others can station observers to monitor the voter check-in process. I suppose that can make it difficult for a check-in person to let his buddy vote ten times (though other checks also make that sort of fraud risky). But I don't believe those laws say the registration must be wide open to observers.

People registering often use bills addressed to them to prove their residence. This is personal and private data that I (as a poll worker who was registering new voters today) consider absolutely privileged information. I would not gossip about what a registrant's monthly rental was, or how much they spent on cable TV. But the GOP seems to be demanding the right to see all this private information.

Public works guy arrived at Durham polling location (0.00 / 0)
to make "adjustments" to comply with the "ruling."

Towards later in the afternoon, it seemed that quite a few new voters showed up who didn't seem particularly happy to be there.  They arrived in their own vehicles, rather than making use of the university carry van or the vehicles with obama logos.

Those dastardly Black Panthers (0.00 / 0)
