Heavens to Betsy! RNC e-mail purges

by: elwood

Thu Apr 12, 2007 at 17:03:24 PM EDT

Today brings news that 5 million plus e-mail messages were deleted from the White House e-mail system, in apparent violation of federal law.

Also, the RNC has been deliberately purging e-mail messages once they get to be 30 days old.

Hmmm.... Remember those phone calls from James Tobin to the RNC, right around the time of the phone-jamming? And how nothing ever surfaced to explain their nature?

Fortunately, Alberto Gonzales and Karl Rove have full confidence in the ability of US Attorney Tom Colantunono to get to the bottom of this. That's why he kept his job, right?

It is a bigger issue (0.00 / 0)
There was an excellent story in the NYTimes today about how the Department of Justice spend five years trying to uncover voter fraud, and didn't find anything more than isolated, unrelated incidents that were usually the result of a mistake.  As you may recall, one of the reasons given for firing those US attorneys was their failure to aggressively pursue voter fraud investigations.  "Voter fraud" also was the reason given by Rove and his allies to enact voter id requirements that suppress the vote among the poor, the elderly and minorities.  These people are disgusting - they politicized the Department of Justice, they fired people who wouldn't go along with their game, they spent our money giving jobs to their unqualified buddies coming out of marginal law schools, they refused to pursue legitimate civil rights cases, the rampant corruption, the use of taxpayers dollars to pursue voter fraud instead of real crime.
But jsut because they hit delete doesn't mean the e mails are gone. Seize the servers, subpoena the backup tapes.

Yes, it certainly is (0.00 / 0)
All sorts of crimes may be discussed in those e-mails.

But the New Hampshire connection is phone jamming and Colantuono's handling of the case.

Colantuano? (0.00 / 0)
It was DoJ out of DC which investigated and prosecuted the case, not the local office.  His office recused itself, the appeared, then disappeared.  Colantuono did not handle the case, it was Washignton.

It reminds me of an old song (4.00 / 1)
the refrain was
"I wish I had a friend like Rosemary Woods"

The song, of course, had an 18 minute gap...

Next time, there may be no next time.

This new development (4.00 / 1)
is so obvious and so crass, yet all at once still shocking.

I think at bottom it comes down to this: Bush and the movement that spawned him have no interest in the commonweal, and so they don't even know that it's worthy of respect.

Or in other words, they're so alien to the dignity of the concept of American democracy that they are incapable of even recognizing that they now spitting on our storied traditions.

It's worse than a revolution, which at least has the dignity of competing ideals.  It's more like: who gave the car keys to that six year old???

Car Keys ?? (4.00 / 1)
Dean, it's more like who gave razor blades to the monkey...

Next time, there may be no next time.
