Uh-oh ... government program certain to enrage NH's GOP

by: Ed Tracey

Thu Aug 06, 2009 at 23:38:37 PM EDT

As a resident of Lebanon, each summer brings the city newsletter with reports from various departments (the school district issues a separate one).

There's a page from the water works department, advice from the Lebanon police on thwarting crime during vacation season, current public works programs .... and then one from the city libraries.

(more after the jump) ...

Ed Tracey :: Uh-oh ... government program certain to enrage NH's GOP
Having had a work/study job at a public library (when I was attending a community college) in my mis-spent youth: I know that most library programs are aimed at children, and so it seems (at first glance) like they are trying to engage grown-ups with a commendable program to discuss works by Isabel Allende, etc.

However, I fear a backlash from Upper Valley social conservatives coming on .... because all they will notice is that this government program is captioned ..........."Adult Book Discussion."

It sounds like something Jay Leno would use in his "Headlines" feature.

Health Care Reality Check (0.00 / 0)
As President Barack Obama's health care reform plan faces a possible delay from opponents including Republicans, some conservative Democrats, health insurers and many pharmaceutical companies - it's time to sort out the scare tactics from reality. If you are among many chronic worrywarts that won't stop bellyaching about health care reform - prepare for a Reality Check.  The reality check has been published by the website Reality Check, which is part of the Obama administrations' PR department.  The issues it addresses are the complaints of the naysayers -  like rationing, which won't happen, or seniors getting euthanized.  Which can't happen, either - it's only legal in a few states, and can't be even suggested by a physician unless asked specifically by the patient.  A lot of squawking it going to continue over the health care debate, and it appears that nothing, Reality Check testimonials from White House officials, reading the bill itself, or cheap loans, will make the conspiracy theorists pipe down.
