BREAKING - Terie Norelli, NH Speaker of the House Endorses Hillaryby: gradysdadWed Aug 01, 2007 at 12:53:08 PM EDT |
( - promoted by Dean Barker) Speaker of the House Terie Norelli announced today that she was supporting Hillary Clinton for President. She was named a New Hampshire Co-Chair of the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign. She said in her statement: I have met with Hillary and talked with her. She is a woman of warmth, compassion, and dedication to issues that really matter. For 35 years she has stood for transformational change, and she is the candidate who has the experience and wisdom necessary to handle complex challenges. |
Terie is currently serving as the first female Democratic Speaker of the New Hampshire House.
Prior to being elected to the New Hampshire House, she was a high school mathematics teacher at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton. Terie has long been committed to women's advocacy. She attended the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, China in l995, and helped to organize follow-up conferences in New Hampshire in 1996 and 2000, and has served as Chair of the NARAL-NH PAC Board of Directors. Norelli has also received several awards for her work in the legislature, including Legislator of the Year by the Women's Lobby and the National Association of Social Workers, and received the Public Service Award from the Bi-State Primary Care Association. At the time of the 100 Club Dinner in March this year, there was a lot of speculation on this blog over who the various dignitaries would endorse for president. Two of them have endorsed Senator Clinton: Sylvia Larsen and Terie Norelli. One has endorsed Senator Obama: Paul Hodes. That leaves Governor Lynch, Representative Carol Shea-Porter, and Kathy Sullivan who have not endorsed anyone as of this date. I found it interesting that Terie had attended the World Women's Conference in China in 1995. I bet that her contact with Senator Clinton at that conference had a big part in her decision to endorse. This is a nice endorsement for the Clinton Campaign. |
