Not so Deep Thought: Sarah Palin reminds me of Buzz Windrip more than George W. Bush ever did.

A book up on the shelf about the dust bowl days (0.00 / 0)
Nanci Griffith's drive-by tip of the hat to Walker Evans and James Agee:

Baby I know that we've got trouble in the fields
When the bankers swarm like locust out there turning away our yield
The trains roll by our silos, silver in the rain
They leave our pockets full of nothing
But our dreams and the golden grain

Have you seen the folks in line downtown at the station
They're all buying their ticket out and talking the great depression
Our parents had their hard times fifty years ago
When they stood out in these empty fields in dust as deep as snow

And all this trouble in our fields
If this rain can fall, these wounds can heal
They'll never take our native soil
But if we sell that new John Deere
And then we'll work these crops with sweat and tears
You'll be the mule I'll be the plow
Come harvest time we'll work it out
There's still a lotta love, here in these troubled fields

There's a book up on the shelf about the dust bowl days
And there's a little bit of you and a little bit of me
In the photos on every page
Now our children live in the city and they rest upon our shoulders
They never want the rain to fall or the weather to get colder

You'll be the mule I'll be the plow
Come harvest time we'll work it out
There's still a lotta love, here in these troubled fields

After the damage to the country (0.00 / 0)
John McCain has already done during his campaign by making such a reckless choice for VP, it is my hope that he is not only defeated, but his reputation called into question as well.

If you haven't, you should really click the link for Palin's name up top.  It's a frightening description from WaPo of where the campaign is going.

Wonder if Sununu's fired now.

Lynch Mob (0.00 / 0)
From the WaPo article cited above:
Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

I feel for Sarah. What a burden it is to be beatiful and righteous.

I dont want you and I dont need you
Dont bother to resist, Ill beat you
Its not your fault that youre always wrong
The weak ones are there to justify the strong
The beautiful people, the beautiful people
Its all relative to the size of your steeple
You cant see the forest for the trees
You cant smell
Your own shit on your knees
Hey you, what do you see?
Something beautiful, something free?
Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
If you live with apes, man, its hard to be clean
-Marilyn Manson

We are the giant. Let's work hard for Obama, Lynch, Shaheen, Hodes, Shea-Porter and all Dems.

I thought that post was going to be about the Governor of New Hampshire, not the Governor of Alaska, haha.

Speaking of people who would make better Presidents than Sarah Palin...

Any thoughts on a victory bash? (0.00 / 0)
Any thoughts on having it November 22, a date that works for me?

Yes, the date falls on an unfortunate anniversary. But we have to ask ourselves: What would Jack Kennedy want us to do? The answer seems obvious to me.

Illegal immigrant taking jobs from domestic workers, detained (0.00 / 0)
This is work that native Kenyans can do!

So the authorities have detained Jerome Corsi for not having a work permit.

Ugh (0.00 / 0)
A work permit? For an author on a book tour?

I hope this turns out to be a joke.

I hope this turns out to be a joke too (0.00 / 0)
I saw this last night in the Metro, a crappy commuter paper. The most legitimate link I can find is Fox, so maybe it is a hoax or some sort of publicity stunt.

Nina Totenberg reports on tapes played at the Stevens trial. If this were the only evidence in the entire case, I'd vote to acquit.

Unfortunately for Ted, as I understand it, there is a lot of other evidence.

"The whole country is counting on you" (4.00 / 1)
Four weeks to go. A little aid and comfort for the ride.

Jack posted this video when it first happened. It's worth another look. I am involved in this campaign now, and the whole "It's all about you" thing is real, with real effects. Honestly, sometimes it drives me nuts. I expect so-and-so and whats-hisher-name to do such-and-such, and I say so, gently, in the form of questions. "Well why isn't so-and-so ... ?" It is continually (but gently) thrown back in my face. What are YOU going to do?

Like you, I have experience with this crap. But I am determined not to learn the wrong lesson from my experience.

I see "President Obama" (4.00 / 2)

2010 Senate
New Hampshire
Granite State Democrats will complete their top-to-bottom takeover of the state in 2010, ousting Sen. Judd Gregg. Expect Rep. Paul Hodes to do the honors.

Senate 2010 (0.00 / 0)
Last time I saw Paul Hodes speak, I asked a question to the effect of "I know you're focused on the current race, but what are you going to do about Judd Gregg in two years?"  He assured me that he was hard at work getting re-elected this fall.  I keep forgetting to ask Steve Marchand the same question.

Which reminds me, can you imagine having a few Dems battle it out for a year and a half and then the winner having two months against Gregg?

We need an earlier State Primary.

Winning* (0.00 / 0)
I didn't say it couldn't be done, but it is an unfair disadvantage.  Gregg gets six years to be his party's nominee, his opponent gets two months.

The spouse, who's not really into particulars, (0.00 / 0)
responded to a Judd Gregg appearance on the news in connection with the bailout with, "Gee, I wish he was up this year."

John McCain has a fellow on his policy team, Gary James Schmitt, who's bio reads:

BACKGROUND: AEI Fellow and PNAC signatory. Co-author with Abram Shulsky (overseer of the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans) of a book on the political though of Leo Strauss as applied to intelligence gathering. Subscribes to the Straussian view that "deception is the norm in political life, and the hope, to say nothing of the expectation, of establishing a politics that can dispense with it is the exception." Advocated war against "the Saddam/bin Laden axis" as a way to "restore national honor."

If "deception is the norm," what can we expect?

Professional Fire Fighters Endorse Paul Hodes (0.00 / 0)
PFFNH endorses Hodes
By Brian Lawson

CONCORD--The Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire (PFFNH) have endorsed U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) in the 2nd Congressional District race.

David Lang, president of the PFFNH said the group endorsed Hodes because of his stance on the FIRE and SAFER Acts and Hodes economic record.

"There can be doubt in my mind, in your mind, that there is no one who cares more for Main Street than for Wall Street," David Lang, president of the PFFNH, said outside the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hall.

Lang added, "We need to send Paul Hodes back to Washington and keep him in Washington."

So, I missed the Senate debate (0.00 / 0)
and was looking for it online. Haven't come across it yet on NHPTV or CSPAN, but I did find an archived video of the 2002 debate, and thought others might find it interesting.

Here's a link.

There are some very expensive Republican lawn signs (4.00 / 1)

But no Kenney.

I saw them right next to a car dealer sign that said "Liquidation Event!!!"

V (4.00 / 2)
I admit it, I had to google doremus.

From Wikipedia:

Inspired by the book, director-producer Kenneth Johnson wrote an adaptation titled Storm Warnings, in 1982. The script was presented to NBC, for production as a television mini-series, but the NBC executives rejected the initial version, claiming it was too 'cerebral' for the average American viewer. To make the script more marketable, the American fascists were re-cast as anthropophagic extraterrestrials, taking the story into the realm of science fiction. The new, re-cast story was the mini-series V, which premiered on May 3, 1983.

I remember V! It was a little cheesy, but by TV standards (especially then), quite good. There is an alien birth scene that no one who has seen can quite forget.

(Insert your Thomas Pynchon joke here. Ah, you know what? Don't.)

Next thing to google: anthropophagic. Say what?

Anthropophagic. (4.00 / 1)
Fancy Greek talk for "man-eater".

Imagine the Hall and Oates song with that substitution!

But really, never use the Greek or Latin term when there's a perfectly good Anglo-Saxon equivalent. Even a dead language guy like me knows that. Bad Wiki, bad bad wiki!

Wonder if Sununu's fired now.

SNL skit that never aired (4.00 / 1)
This is a right-wing blog (it seems); someone sent this to me. The skit is anti-Democratic, but I still found it somewhat amusing.
