Who Will Be The Next NH Attorney General?

by: sdoyle

Fri Dec 19, 2008 at 21:49:33 PM EST

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

Story on Politicker and the post here about the Addison case prompted me to think about our current Attorney General.

Kelly Ayotte was appointed Deputy Attorney General in 2003, and appointed Attorney General under Former Governor Benson in 2004.

Under New Hampshire law the Attorney General has a 4 year term, which is different than our 2 year Governor's term.

So as we know, Gov. Lynch was elected a few months after Ayotte was appointed Attorney General. Now with her term running up, and Governor Lynch returning to the State House and a Democratic Executive Council returning to the State House who will be our next Attorney General?

sdoyle :: Who Will Be The Next NH Attorney General?
I am not an expert by any means of the prominent lawyers, or judges currently serving in the NH Courts or private firms. But I thought this would be a good discussion, after all it is an important job, and our current AG needs to go, and go quickly (California Law Suit, Parental Notification, etc.).

Any ideas?

I defer to Pindell (4.00 / 2)
Likewise, I'm no NH legal expert, but Pindell's shortlist for U.S. Attorney seems like a good place to start.

Also, we have a new Hamster here, folks.  Just wanted to say hello to everyone.  I've been following BH for a long while but just got the time and freedom to join up.

Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn't mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar.

hmm gately, that name sounds familiar.

Thanks for the list, didn't know Pindell had a shortlist.

...Doyle rings a bell, too. Hope you're doing well post Nov. 4.  I'm going through a little withdrawal.

As far as AG as political stepping-stone, it has been impossible for me to find a list of previous Attorneys General of NH but I know that Warren Rudman served as AG from 1970-'76 before being elected senator on 1980.

My research skills are rusty.  Must be all that "college."

Time and freedom to post? That does sound familiar. As do both names. As for me, if you guess IT, then you're right...

IT for John Lynch '04 and NHDP '08 - I'm liking my track record so far!

The Pappagianis farm team (0.00 / 0)
IIRC, Walter Peterson appointed George Pappagianis Attorney General and he established a remarkable crew, many of whom followed him into the office. That includes Rudman, Souter, and Rath.

What (4.00 / 1)
makes us think he'll nominate someone else?

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. n/t (0.00 / 0)

I think he will. (0.00 / 0)
He didn't want her to take parental notification to SCOTUS. He reappointed her when the GOP controlled the EC but not before letting some tension build.
