You can make a difference in NH!

by: Rep. Mo Baxley

Fri Mar 20, 2009 at 12:43:04 PM EDT

(Our friends at NH FTM have made sending emails to legislators as easy as pushing a button. Show your  support for marriage equality - and take a stand against those horrifying radio ads.   - promoted by susanthe)

The New Hampshire House will be voting on HB436 (marriage equality) and HB415 (anti-discrimination act for gender identity and expression) on Thursday March 26. The vote will be extremely close and we need your help. The opposition is flooding Representatives with calls and e-mails and it is having an impact. Please contact your Representative. It could make the difference between these bills passing or being defeated. Every vote counts!

Thanks, Mo, for the link. (4.00 / 2)
We had a meeting last night of the Belknap County and Laconia Democratic Parties and all three of the Democratic Reps. present - Bill Johnson of Gilford, and Beth Aresenault and Dick Stuart of Laconia promised to vote for both HB436 and HB415. In a subsequent conversation with Rep. Judith Reever, she assured me that she'd be voting in the affirmative on both bills as well.

Garnering that kind of support in the Lakes Region makes me feel confident that with a committed effort, we can help a majority reach the same conclusion.

My problem (4.00 / 1)
I'm new to this state, and a strong democrat
(shock, I know). I have four state reps, one Dem & 3 Reps; the Dem voted for civil unions and according to a voter questionnaire supports marriage equality. I'll give her a call and confirm.

What do I do about the Reps though? All opposed the civil union bill, and (being a bit of a pushover) I hate phone calls. Are they persuadable? Do reps hate it when constituents call? I can do letters, but I feel like phone calls may be more direct.

give 'em a call, Mormo (4.00 / 2)
It's good for ALL reps to hear from all of their constituents. Who knows, you might help persuade one to think about things differently.

The great thing about NH, is that we have unparalleled access to our elected officials. Their phone numbers are in the book, so that we can call them. They appreciate it when we do, even if we have opposing views.

Welcome to NH - you're going to love it here!

calling reps (4.00 / 2)
Most Reps like getting calls and talking to the people they represent.
