Like many of you, I contacted my two senators in an effort to encourage them to support the current efforts in the Congress to achieve healthcare reform. Yesterday, I got my response back from Senator Gregg. He sent me a three page letter in which he says that he supports reform, but not in the form of the legislation currently being debated in Congress.
Senator Gregg takes three pages to tell me what is wrong with the current bills and tries to convince me that he is really for reform as long as it is market based and not costly. |

Now I have learned that Senator Gregg is circulating a memorandum to his Senate colleagues advising them of various ways that they may obstruct the debate on the legislation. That memo may be found here. The memo outlines 15 parliamentary measures Senate Republicans can use to block President Obama's health care reform legislation. TPM notes most of the steps "don't serve any substantive purpose at all, but simply cause the debate proceedings to grind to a halt." My question to him is why not participate in the debate and try to amend the bill to his liking. Obstructionism and delay seems the only way. And to think that this guy almost became a member of President Obama's Cabinet. |
