FOX

Fox in the henhouse

by: Lucy Edwards

Tue Oct 26, 2010 at 06:48:56 AM EDT

This short but pithy letter to the Editor was posted by our town historian in Northwood, who married into an old family in town, and is a feisty, strong and brave woman.

Not sure what fair use is for something this short, but I will try:

An old Yankeeism advises the farmer not to put the fox in with the chickens.

FOX: Tea Party, Palin-Backed Lamontagne Wins Primary!

by: Dean Barker

Thu Sep 16, 2010 at 19:33:01 PM EDT

Man, I have to start watching FAUX more often:
So, is Palin playing mum because she can't remember whom she endorsed?  Or because Bill-O just made her look bad because if she corrects him, then America knows she backed the DC establishment candidate? Either way, priceless.

Way to root on Kelly, Sarah!

Nothing Funny About 24/7 Hate-Tainment

by: Dean Barker

Fri Apr 02, 2010 at 07:37:34 AM EDT

In the space of a few hours last night, I heard a hate radio personality infer that the Hutaree were a bunch of buffoons essentially set up by the government to appear to be dangerous, Sean Hannity casually refer to the Tea People as "Tim McVeigh wannabes" (to applause), and read this from Glenn Beck about the passage of health care reform:
Get down on your knees and pray. Pray. It's September 11th all over again, except that we didn't have the collapsing buildings.
I think it's time to get serious about the 24/7 Hate-Tainment industry.  It plays on the easily victimized, the fearful, and the uninformed.  And it's dangerous to the safety and well-being of the Grand Experiment of our democracy.

I'm not interested in using this frightening violence-baiting as a partisan exercise to bring people over to our team.

Rather, I would like to know what we as a country can do to prevent the Hate-Tainment industry from contributing to a real tragedy.

What can we do to counter the well-funded, morally vacuous puppeteers of this hate?

On Making It Work, Or, An Open Letter To Network TV

by: fake consultant

Sun Jan 03, 2010 at 00:29:28 AM EST

After a decade-long slide into semi-irrelevance, it's now being announced that the major television broadcast networks are considering leaving behind the "free TV/advertiser supported" business model in order to turn themselves into something more closely resembling a cable operation; the idea being that they could create a second revenue stream from the same "subscriber fees" that are paid by cable and satellite operators to all the other channels those operators carry.

This has become necessary, according to the networks, partly because the market has become so fragmented...which, naturally, is cable's fault-and presumably the fault of the disloyal viewer, as well.

Another reason driving the change is related to the desire of the networks to have a source of revenue that's more reliable in times of economic downturn, when advertisers often try to husband scarce resources by cutting back on all their expenses, particularly advertising dollars.

Will this new change in the business model reverse the fortunes of the networks?
Is it possible that the networks are simply poor business managers?

And what about...Krystal Carey?

Tune in for the rest of the story-and we'll find out.

GOP TV Calls for New bin Laden Attack on United States

by: Dean Barker

Wed Jul 01, 2009 at 07:38:33 AM EDT

Why, exactly? So we can usher in another Republican president who will drop the ball on finding bin Laden a second time?

But more to the point: do John H. Sununu, Judd Gregg, Jennifer Horn, Frank Guinta, Kelly Ayotte, Charlie Bass, and John E. Sununu agree with this? Since FOX is basically the GOP media organ, and this statement was thrown out with no real counterpoint, it would be nice to know if this is a legitimate goal of the GOP these days.

NB: Title changed to "new" b/c of the original WTC attack in the 90's as well as the embassy attacks, which in a way, are the US. So "2nd" doesn't really cut it.

Tea-Bagger Wastes Your Tax Dollars & Emergency Services

by: Dean Barker

Thu Apr 02, 2009 at 05:42:08 AM EDT

Could right-wing entertainers like Sad Clown Glenn Beck and other FAUX News morons figure out a way for their demographic to protest in a way that doesn't look like an anthrax attack?  I don't know, like actually showing up to a protest instead of mailing it in?
The green tea he had mailed to the Manchester office of Rep. Carol Shea-Porter prompted the evacuation of her office yesterday. Police and firefighters were at the downtown location for about 1 1/2 hours, securing the scene and conducting field tests for possible hazardous substances or volatile compounds.

"Really, I didn't think it was a big deal," said [Michael] Yannetti, a dentist who lives in Pelham. "As far as I know, this was a mainstream thing."

Fox News has reported about the tea protests for weeks, he said.

Back in the real world, where folks don't sit around watching Bill O'Reilly, emergency services like fire and police have to deal with real threats, like unknown substances sent to high profile public officials.

Adding: how long before this is spun as Carol's fault?  From the looks of the way the UL article was written, I'd guess not long.

I Know I Didn't Like Him, But Did He Need An Armed Escort?

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Mon Jan 12, 2009 at 18:12:34 PM EST

TPM Muckraker is reporting that Joe Buck and Tim McCarver had U.S. Marshall protection during the 2007 World Series games at Fenway:

A new report by the Justice Department's inspector general finds that a lawyer for the U.S. Marshals Service arranged for the Marshals Service to provide a private escort for the limousines of Fox's star broadcasters, Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, after two World Series games at Fenway Park in 2007.

Now, I haven't liked Tim McCarver since he was the catcher for the Cardinals in the 1967 World Series (I know that is a long time to hold a grudge, but I was a kid and it broke my heart when the Red Sox lost in 7), and the guy is incapable of shutting up and letting us enjoy a game. But are there so many of us McCarver critics in New England that the taxpayers really have to pay for US Marshall protection at Fenway?

When George W. Bush is finally, thankfully gone next Tuesday, what other ridiculous expenditures are we going to discover?  8 more days, thank God!

Breaking news: Union Leader "Who's In, Who's Out, Who's Mad"

by: Kelly Nordstrom

Tue Jan 01, 2008 at 17:19:26 PM EST

I edited the diary, because I realized I may have been violating fair use guidelines... oops, my bad.

This weekend's presidential debates and forum will not include some nationally known candidates, and the chairmen of the state Republican and Democratic parties are not happy.

Fergus Cullen and Raymond Buckley say the decisions by ABC News, WMUR and, in Cullen's case, FOX News, are inconsistent with the New Hampshire Presidential primary's tradition of providing a level playing field for all candidates.

ABC News and WMUR television (Channel 9) confirmed yesterday they have established performance-based criteria for Saturday's presidential debates. The rules could leave several candidates on the outside looking in, including Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Duncan Hunter, as well as Sens. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd.

And Cullen confirmed that FOX News has invited only five presidential candidates to a Republican forum scheduled for Sunday night, leaving out Ron Paul and Hunter. Cullen said the state GOP was in "ongoing discussions with FOX News about having as many candidates as possible participate" and remained a forum co-sponsor as of yesterday.

UPDATE: Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama this afternoon issued statements prodding ABC and WMUR not to narrow the field.

Obama said: "The voters of New Hampshire deserve to hear all the Democratic candidates' views on who can best lead America in a fundamentally new direction, and that's why I urge these networks to allow full participation in this week's debate."

Clinton said: "I believe in the true spirit of the New Hampshire process, the candidates who have participated in past debates should not be excluded from this one."

In an earlier posting on a liberal Democratic blog, www.BlueHampshire.com, one of Clinton's top local supporters, former state party chair Kathy Sullivan, had said that anyone upset by the debate's format should call WMUR and complain.

In contrast, John Edwards told UnionLeader.com this afternoon, "I'm staying out of that. I don't get to set the rules for the debates. I'll let the people who are in charge of the debates set the rules. And I'll be there."
