"We became Civil Unionized on 1/26/2008 after 17 plus years together. Now we are nearing twenty and would love to make it a simpler message of Married 2 years in 2010."
If you are enjoying this series and/or think it useful, please contribute a photo (and maybe some words) to this effort to show the human side of marriage equality. "Straight," not, single, not, is no matter. Just that you live in NH and support marriage equality. 17 years together. Now that's something to celebrate - with the same freedom to marry many of us take for granted:
Meet Tracy Mendham and Dana Chenier:
"After seventeen years together, Dana and I were able to marry in a New Hampshire civil union in August 2008. It was incredibly meaningful to celebrate our love and commitment in the company of our families and friends, and to know that our relationship as a couple would be legally acknowledged. Almost nothing could be better (and more surprising in the formerly red state of NH) than this--unless it were to be able not to have THAT conversation again and again, the one where we are asked the difference between a marriage and a civil union. The answer, of course, is that there is no difference. Our level of commitment, the strength of our bond, the joy of our shared life, and our human right to all of this, is no less, no different, than it would be if we were of different genders. The difference is only in the word. It's time for New Hampshire to admit either that civil unions are marriages, no more and no less, and to call them marriages--or to acknowledge that the state is not in the business of licensing religious marriages. What is a marriage but a civil union, as far as the State of New Hampshire is concerned?"

Marriage equality. It's not for arugula chewing coastal elites anymore:
Meet the newest supporters of marriage equality, the Iowa Supreme Court.*

Families and fairness - two great pillars of society.
Meet Kelly and Fran DeFeo (and family):
"Our hope for all is a loving family, large or small!"

A stone wall girding an old cemetery - that's as traditionally Live Free or Die as it gets.
Meet Lucy (and her dogs) from Northwood:
Because marriage brings many civil and economic rights AND responsibilities, this married woman believes all committed couples have the right to be married if they so wish, and society would be well advised to encourage them to do so.

Meet Bryan Bissell, who no longer lives in New Hampshire but who was so excited about the prospect of marriage equality passing in the state he sent along a photo in support.

Meet Rebekah and Cindy, daughters of Caroline French and Otis and Amy Perry from Dover, NH.
I love this photo - it was actually what gave me the inspiration for the project.

This is quickly turning into my favorite online project:
Meet Salme and Ken Perry:
We want everyone to have the opportunity to be able to enjoy the cherished relationship we often take for granted.

Having our marriage be accepted by the state means more to us than anyone can imagine. We have been working and sacrificing for many years to support equality for LGBT in NH and to support gay-friendly legislators and candidates to bring us to the day when we can finally be treated the same as any other couple. We have donated many thousands of dollars over the years to bring us to the point where we will be allowed to get a $50 marriage license that most people take for granted. We chose to get married in Canada rather than get a Civil Union in New Hampshire because the institution of marriage means something more to us than just a set of legal rights. For LGBT, it's the difference between being part of a community and merely being tolerated.

I woke up this morning with this crazy thought in my head: marriage equality could actually become a reality in our state!
So, I'll make this short and to the point: this bill will become law if we can put a human face on it. Lots of faces.
But to do this I need your help. If you a) live in New Hampshire, and b) support marriage equality, send us a photo of who you are, and, if you like, your thoughts on this issue.
I'm most interested in photos of married couples and committed couples who are currently denied the right to marry. But I also don't want to leave out those supporters who are not with a partner at the moment but who cherish the right to be married regardless of their orientation.
Photos that I get will both become part of a regular series here and also gathered into one long post. I will also be sending the latter form periodically to our state senators.
Granite State supporters of marriage equality, send your photo (and thoughts too) to:
