Congratulations, Democratic Nominee Annie Kuster!

by: Dean Barker

Katrina Swett just conceded on WMUR.

Swett: "I want to extend to her [Kuster] my best wishes and support..."

Thank you Katrina Swett!

Congratulations Annie Kuster!

Morning Update: Colin van Ostern is a genius.  Here we come Charlie!

Who concedes with only 2400 votes in? I mean, its clear she'll lose...but still...

official results come in.

for example (4.00 / 8)
my job was to call in the Kuster Ward 2 Keene results.

Which makes me think though -- why don't we crowdsource this to Blue Hampshire -- have Blue Hampshire collect the results long before the AP in November? Thoughts?

Bill Binnie conceding. (4.00 / 2)
Man, did his star fall fast.

Just a short time ago, he had the best TeeVee ads.

Congratulations, Annie! (0.00 / 0)
With all the towns and cities having reported in, unofficially, Annie is certainly the winner...Who could argue with Keene's Ward 2 Results.

Marlborough: Kuster: 130  Swett 30

You're welcome, Annie.

Something symbolic happened tonight .... (0.00 / 0)
.... when a Katrina Swett commercial appeared on TV - after 8:00 PM. I forget whether it was on ESPN or MSNBC .... but that kinda tells ya something.

"We should pay attention to that man behind the curtain."

Time to Unite (4.00 / 12)
Annie waged a tough campaign, and she is a deserving victor. She has earned our support.

Time to hold Charlie accountable.

I remember... (4.00 / 1)
how I felt in 2008 when my preferred primary candidate dropped out of the presidential race, and it was not nearly as gracious or good-natured as this.  It takes a big (and good) person to back the person who defeated them (or the person they supported) in an emotional moment, but it's very important that as progressives and Democrats, we support one another in the weeks ahead.

Agreed (4.00 / 2)
Alcohol helps, too.

We spent a lot of time and energy playing up the 5% (differences) between Annie and Katrina.  But the other 95% (shared values) can't be forgotten. . . .

Second CD (4.00 / 5)
Congratulations Annie.

Thank you Katrina for your leadership and dedication.

NH and America are for the better because of our two outstanding candidates.

Very proud of both of them.

Good night Congressman Bass.

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

Concession speech (4.00 / 3)
I'm a CD1 voter, but I appreciate the fact that Swett chose to mention her support for Kuster at the beginning of her speech.  Contrast that with Binnie's concession speech.

Swett Can Put Kuster Over The Top (4.00 / 6)
Since I didn't have a choice or favorite between Ann Kuster and Katrina Swett -- to me they are both fantastic -- I think that if Swett now gets heavily behind Kuster, she'll put her over the top.  Both are great campaigners, and on the trail they can Smash Bass.

I knew Sue McLane quite well when we served together in the State Senate, and I knew Malcolm as well.  I'm sure they would be so pleased and proud tonight.

[I'm a former has-been House member and State Senator, but I keep "Rep." on my ID name for easy reference of previous posts.]

Just saw Katrina's concession on WMUR (4.00 / 2)
Wasn't expecting to laugh. . . until I saw Chuck Douglas' personal injury lawyer ad to open the video.  That reminded me why he's no longer in Congress, and it made me very happy.

Ann McClane Kuster   (4.00 / 2)
With an impeccable political pedigree it is rumored that Ann McClane Kuster of Hopkinton is exploring a run for Paul Hodes seat. She chaired Women for Obama with Peggo Horstmann Hodes in the recent election cycle. Ann and I both served on Al Gore's State Health Care Advisory panel in 2000. She as an attorney expert in the field, I as a small business owner struggling to provide benefits for 50 employees. It was at her house party in 1998 that I first heard Paul and Peggo play at a fundraiser for Jeanne Shaheen. The headliner was Dick Gephardt, who's staff included David Plouffe, Jim Demers and Matt Rodriguez.
I would love for Ann to run...push push

  http://nh.barackobama.com/page...
In a society that too often insisted women had to choose between their careers and their families, Ann McLane Kuster was determined to succeed at both.  She graduated from only the third class of women at Dartmouth College and became one of the leading lawyers in New Hampshire.  Ann now serves as a role model for the next generation of women.  She is a Co-Chair of New Hampshire Women for Obama because she believes in Barack's ability to give hope to the marginalized.

  This is her story.
  http://nh.barackobama.com/page...

Prior to joining Rath Young and Pignatelli in 1986, Ann practiced law with the McLane law firm in Manchester, N.H.  A legislative assistant to former Congressman Pete McCloskey of California, Ann has been active in numerous political campaigns, including the bid of her father, Executive Councilor Malcolm McLane, for governor in 1972, and that of her mother, State Senator Susan McLane, for Congress in 1980.  She served on the statewide steering committee for Barack Obama for President in 2007-2008 and John Kerry for President in 2003-2004.  Ann was a member of the 2004 N.H. Delegation to the Democratic Convention in Boston and was a 2008 Obama delegate in Denver.

Kuster, of Hopkinton, is the great-granddaughter of Governor John McLane, who served from 1905 to 1907. In 1972, Kuster worked in the independent gubernatorial campaign of her father, former Executive Councilor Malcolm McLane, and in the state Senate and 1980 congressional campaigns of her mother, Susan McLane. She served on the campaign finance committee of Governor Jeanne Shaheen in 1996 and 1998. She has participated in numerous local, state, and national Democratic campaigns.

Bass (4.00 / 7)
Glad bass is winning for selfish reasons -- I can rerun all my 2006 blog posts!

If you wait in place long enough, you always become current again ;)

Yes, but: (4.00 / 2)
Isn't it amazing how he is not doing better against the two others?

If Horn and Giuda had worked it out earlier, there would be no nominee Bass.  And that should terrify him.

1994 GOP primary results:

Bass 29%
Hammond 24%
Scott 21%
Bassett 14%

Pissed us off when Ward Scott entered the race late and secured Nackey Loeb's endorsement.

Just checked the returns. I will be up late tonight, that's for sure.

On second thought. . . . (0.00 / 0)
Just looked at the AP numbers. . . . The Bass-Horn margin is distorted by disproportionate Southern Tier reporting (Nashua, Salem).  I think Charlie takes this one.

Watching Kochvar (4.00 / 2)
on WMUR tell the TeeVee crowd that they are counting on the liberal enclaves of Keene, etc... to close the gap with Ovide is just too funny for words.

YOWZA!

And I am really pulling hard for my fellow townsman Charlie! I really want him to win this primary in the worst way (and I mean it). Looking forward to Caulfield's reruns, they all still apply.

but telling: fellow townsman (and former Gov.) Walt Peterson (and son Andy) heartily endorsed Ayotte in this contest. They'll have to hold their noses and support Charlie if all this really comes to pass.
