Breitbart Blasts Liberal Hypocrisy in Manchester as Stooge Confesses to Felonies in New Orleans

by: TimothyHorrigan

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

Steward for Prosperity had an ostensibly nonpartisan event in Manchester.  It was in fact totally partisan, but I went anyway.  I scared Rep. Fran Wendelboe a little, whom I know from a recent hearing to be a gun-toting state rep, but she laughed it off and there was no gun fire. I only stayed for the speech by Newt Gingrich which is actually not what I will comment on.
TimothyHorrigan :: Breitbart Blasts Liberal Hypocrisy in Manchester as Stooge Confesses to Felonies in New Orleans
I will say that the conservative movement in America has devolved to the point where Newt Gingrich is now a voice of reason.  And part of that may just because he has mellowed with age.  He almost sounded like a liberal at tines: like a liberal he just says what he thinks and only occasionally bothers to tell us what the other side thinks.  The typical conservative polemicist, unlike Gingrich, is obsessed with liberals and spend most of his or her time telling the audience (very inaccurately) what liberals think.

Andrew Breitbart apparently took some time off during his speech in Manchester from explaining what liberals think, and used part of his timeslot to blast us liberals for our hypocrisy regarding a recent incident in New Orleans.  His stooge James O'Keefe (who made the infamous Acorn videos) kinda confessed to several felonies: he was caught trying to bug Sen. Landrieu's phone. His confession is amusingly demented.  I am posting it here in its entierty because I think the young man's lawyers (unless they are dumb as their client) will be taking it down soon as they try to keep him out of jail.

The government has now confirmed what has always been clear:  No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu's office.  Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines.  Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.

As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN.  For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.

I learned from a number of sources that many of Senator Landrieu's constituents were having trouble getting through to her office to tell her that they didn't want her taking millions of federal dollars in exchange for her vote on the healthcare bill.  When asked about this, Senator Landrieu's explanation was that, "Our lines have been jammed for weeks."  I decided to investigate why a representative of the people would be out of touch with her constituents for "weeks" because her phones were broken.  In investigating this matter, we decided to visit Senator Landrieu's district office - the people's office - to ask the staff if their phones were working.

On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building.  The sole intent of our investigation was to determine whether or not Senator Landrieu was purposely trying to avoid constituents who were calling to register their views to her as their Senator.  We video taped the entire visit, the government has those tapes, and I'm eager for them to be released because they refute the false claims being repeated by much of the mainstream media.

It has been amazing to witness the journalistic malpractice committed by many of the organizations covering this story.  MSNBC falsely claimed that I violated a non-existent "gag order."  The Associated Press incorrectly reported that I "broke in" to an office which is open to the public.  The Washington Post has now had to print corrections in two stories on me.  And these are just a few examples of inaccurate and false reporting.  The public will judge whether reporters who can't get their facts straight have the credibility to question my integrity as a journalist.

The importance of intent. (0.00 / 0)
It seems to be characteristic of conservative thinking that the ideas behind or the intent of their actions are what count.  Indeed, sometimes the intent is all there is.  That's what accounts for the expression "all hat; no cattle."

In other instances, such as the one mentioned here, the intent is supposed to define whatever action was actually undertaken.

Similar "thinking" can be identified in the explanation that the invasion and bombardment of Iraq aimed to "spread Democracy."

I suppose what makes this kind of rationalization particularly attractive is that, absent a personal interest or benefit that's sought to be acquired, it's really hard, under our system of law, to prove criminal intent.  That's why one person's good intentions are likely to lead to another person's living hell.

He doesn't know his audience. (4.00 / 2)
Claiming he didn't try to commit phone crimes?

Why does he think the NH GOP liked him, anyhow?

Any doubt that UL is now the NHGOP newsletter? (4.00 / 2)
Yesterday's Republican gathering garned and entire one third of page one with two photos and two stories in today's UL. The front page stories continue on to an additional full page and a third with four additional photos.

Let's not forget UL's extensive coverage of the CSP smear last week all the while ignoring the Baldasaro behavior...

And the editors wonder why their readership is declining so rapidly?

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

random remark about capitalism @ the SNHU event (0.00 / 0)
The Republicans like to paint themselves as the party of capitalism--- yet ironically the STEWARD event was devoid of capitalist activity.

When you go to any gathering of liberals, there are always vendors selling stuff, marketing their services, giving stuff away, etc.  I bet Ray Buckley is already sketching out the layout for this year's bazaar at the state party convention in June.  If the 2010 convention is like previous such events, there will be a couple dozen booths somewhere near the main hall.  The attendees will all go home with bags of schwag.

One of the main reasons I went on Saturday  was to see the vendor area.  But there was no vendor area. There was nothing to buy or acquire aside from a few official campaign items.  There was no capitalism going on in the lobby.  Newt Gingrich did show good capitalist spirit by plugging his many books every chance he got during his keynote address--- but even he neglected to actually have any books for sale after the speech.

This isn't a right vs.left thing: the NH Liberty Alliance, for example, had all sorts of stuff being sold and given away at its annual banquet in July 2009. They even raffled off a gun! I think the total absence of capitalist activity at Saturday's conference was a Republican thing; however I don't attend many GOP events so I don't know for sure.

Well, the Republican understanding of capitalism is (4.00 / 1)
rather predatory.  So, perhaps it's considered bad form to prey on your own kind.

Wait, what? (0.00 / 0)
The premise seems to be that the whole stunt was conducted in order to 'catch' some staffer or intern in one of the Senator's offices making an offhand remark that they don't particularly enjoy every single phone call from every single constituent.

Would that really be shocking enough to warrant a media frenzy? The idea that someone who answers the phone all day doesn't enjoy every call?

one word for you Breitbart (4.00 / 2)
ACORN.

Pot meets kettle, once again.

blasted for big lie (4.00 / 1)
Breitbart himself apaprently has refuted my allegation that O'Keefe was bugging the phones.  He tells us with total objectivity that:

There are no allegations of any bugging plot in the FBI affidavit, and a law enforcement official has conceded that the four men were not attempting to wiretap or intercept calls. Furthermore, legal representation for the accused has gone on record stating there were no intentions to bug phones in the Senator's office.

I suppose I jumped a little from the known fact that they were tampering with the phone system to the inference that they were trying to put in a wiretap.

There were no allegations of a bugging plot in the initial FBI report, Breitbart tells us.  Hence, we now know with absolute certainty that there never will be any such allegations--- unless of course you think it is possible that more allegations might be made later as the case develops.

An unnamed law enforcement officer says that no bugs or wiretapping devices were found.  Hence, we now know with absolute certainty that there were no bugs or wiretap devices--- unless of course you think it is possible that this law enforcement officer might be mistaken and/or that devices existed but were not found.

And of course the ultimate proof is that O'Keefe's lawyers say there was no intention to bug phones in the Senator's office.  That definitively puts the matter to rest--- unless of course those lawyers turn out to be making incorrect statements.  But, hey!, who ever heard of a lawyer saying something which turned out to be untrue?

I hope for O'Keefe's sake he put aside his political convictions and hired trial lawyers to defend him.  Because the young man has a trial in his future.
