BP is Beyond Pathetic

Not in the shot

I thought we were through (4.00 / 1)
with Halliburton when we voted the war criminals out of office.  Sadly, you can do a lot of damage in 8 years.  Sigh.

MMS More Than BP (4.00 / 2)
Clearly BP had no preparation at all. They are the easiest target, certainly deserving of criticism.

But even more to blame is the Minerals Management Service, the agency which is supposed to regulate offshore oil drilling. MMS has been filled with oil industry hacks and did zero regulation.

It's awful feeling so powerless as the oil continues to gush.

No'm Sayn?

I agree with Burt (4.00 / 2)
It's easy to yell at BP, but this is a systemic problem.  Effective regulation should be able to avert catastrophes like this, even when the most immoral corporations are involved.

The needed action: No more offshore oil drilling at least until a comprehensive review of controls is complete.  A few bucks added to the gas bill is less important than the survival of an ecosystem.

right you are (4.00 / 1)
but I see no reason why we can't take aim at all of the worthy candidates. BP is definitely one of them.

[ Parent ]
an opportunity to notice: (4.00 / 2)
What are we thinking about and doing, while we are waiting to see where the oil will go?

We can't stop the oil. But maybe we could stop the use of dispersants, if we leaned hard enough on our elected officials. That would be something.

my song about the Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster

Boycott BP and these BP Brands (0.00 / 0)
BP brands to boycott include Castrol, Arco, Aral, am/pm, Amoco, and Wild Bean Cafe, Safeway gas

Not in the shot

why? (0.00 / 0)
do you think BP is more onerous than other oil companies?  are you perhaps one of those rare people living in virtue and driving an electric car?

[ Parent ]
neither (0.00 / 0)
I want to make BP pay because they are a huge heartless bastard.

Not in the shot

[ Parent ]
As opposed to the other (more lovable) oil companies..... (0.00 / 0)
Once again: This is a systemic problem, caused by an array of illicit corporations and a goverment, media, and public that enables them.

BP is at fault. But don't think you're achieving a productive end by filling up your tank at Exxon rather then Amoco.

Porn and Meth (0.00 / 0)
From AP:
So what were the staff members at the Minerals Management Service-the Interior Department division in charge of regulating offshore drilling-doing instead of their jobs? Watching pornography, according to a report from the Interior Department's inspector general, as well as a slew of other offenses, including at least one inspector who used crystal meth and may have been under its influence at work. Staff members also accepted tickets to sporting events and free lunches from the oil and gas companies they were supposed to be overseeing. "[W]e discovered that the individuals involved in the fraternizing and gift exchange-both government and industry-have often known one another since childhood," the inspector general wrote.

WTF!!

No'm Sayn?

In it for what they could get (0.00 / 0)
This was simply welfare for their buddies.  The furthest thing from public service I can imagine.

We believe in prosperity & opportunity, strong communities, healthy families, great schools, investing in our future and leading the world by example. We are Democrats; we are the change you're looking for.

Hey (4.00 / 1)
You can't tell us not to cover this story we've been ignoring!
