Vicki Schwaegler, In Her Own Words

by: Dean Barker

Sat Jun 19, 2010 at 07:35:38 AM EDT

Victoria Schwaegler, anonymous writer of Take Back Orford:
Look at all the states surrounding New Hampshire on the New York Times maps that allow first cousin marriage AND gay marriage.

Hmmmm, I wonder if Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts allow marriage to a cow yet. Moooooooo!

and (on HB415):
You ask, what crazy nutcase would introduce this legislation? Well, welcome Ed Butler! Ed Butler is a New Hampshire State Representative. Ed Butler introduced HB 415. Ed Butler is gay. Why are we not reporting on the fact that Ed is looking after his own self interest? What about the 1,315,000 residents of New Hampshire that are not gay? Who will represent us?

...Yep, Mrs. Deb Conklin (Reynolds) (D) will now be caught in the Men's Room and Mr. Matthew Houde (D) will be caught in the Women's Room. Just think, you could discuss the future of our state with your State Senator in the next stall over. Hmm, NOW that's progressive!

and:
So, with all of the press today about Carrie Prejean being openly against gay marriage, it shouldn't be too terribly tough for Governor Lynch to now VETO hb436 (legislation on Gay Marriage). As of Monday, Lynch had not yet received this bill on his desk. Some claim that Lynch is delaying the bills' arrival to his office because he needs more time to come to a decision. Either way, this issue has been hit hard by both sides. But I really have to admit, most recently, with all of the Miss California/Carrie Prejean hoopla, the conservatives have won this last battle. The weapon, most importantly was Carrie Prejean's speech today. Her RIGHT to freedom of speech has allowed those fearful of speaking out AGAINST gay marriage feel exonerated.

...As a side note, this past Sunday, I asked my openly 'gay' friend if he was interested in the term 'Marriage' for himself. His reply was 'Hell NO! We should all just keep the government out of the marriage business." Mind you, this amazing friend stood up for me as a groomsman at my wedding. Folks, we ALL have GAY friends, but I have finally realized something very important. Not everyone wants the same thing. Consider this for a moment, just because you are gay, doesn't mean you want the word 'marriage' forced upon you.

Victoria Schwaegler, no longer anonymous Republican candidate for State Representative, Grafton-6:
But Schwaegler yesterday said she couldn't really say how she would have voted on gay marriage.

"How could I answer that, because I have gay friends who stood up for me at my wedding," she said.

NB: Title changed, because sometimes commentary is unnecessary.

To have a rationale debate of the issue, or any issue for that matter, when dealing with a gaping asshole.

Whack-a-mole, anyone?

Impressive reporting (4.00 / 2)
from Valley News, in a day when transcribing press releases passes for journalism.

"Politics ain't beanbag" - Finley Peter Dunne

apparently the only thing worse than being a Democrat to this woman... (0.00 / 0)
is being a younger and prettier woman than her. Her treatment of Karen L-H and Victoria Seivers is really mean-spirited and juvenile. She's really the perfect candidate for today's GOP...

even though she is young & pretty herself (0.00 / 0)
Ironically, judging by her pictures, and there are a few within casual Google range, she herself is young and good-looking... at least she looks good until you get to know her a little.  She doesn't look so good after you read her inane rantings.

She seems to think that sneering at liberal Democrats is the way to win the hearts of her neighbors.  However, this is a district with very few Republicans (although it was different a few years ago.)  The largest political party by far are the Undeclareds, followed by D's and R's.  Even many of the R's are not rabidly anti-Democrat.  Most of the people she is trying to reach are profoundly uninterested in her line of bullcookies.

I don't share your estimation of her (sexist comment warning) (4.00 / 1)
In fact, based on her picture and the wedding ring she's wearing in it, I think we have answer to whether or not it's okay to marry a cow.

"Hmmmm, I wonder if Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts allow marriage to a cow yet. Moooooooo!

Please, let's not sink (4.00 / 4)
to Ms. Schwaegler's level of analysis.

at least Vicki isn't French! (0.00 / 0)
Karen Liot Hill is apparently not overly worried about pleasing the Vicki Schwaegler types.  She has posting a series of tweets on Twitter to the effect that she is not merely traveling to France (FRANCE!) but she is even proud to be part-French herself.  She even mused out loud:

Passport control now at Charles de Gaulle. Note to self: get French passport for next European voyage... :)

Sadly, she is not an anomaly (4.00 / 1)
within the ranks of today's Republican Party.

2012 starts today.

People who are looking for privilege, see privilege (0.00 / 0)
everywhere.  That's why Republicans fail to understand that marriage, like citizenship, is actually an acceptance of additional obligations.

Obligation is the key.  Social (societal) obligation is what conservatives reject.  Even the term "public servant" doesn't make service palatable because it represents a subordinate status.

Telling. (0.00 / 0)
This sentence is particularly telling.

Her RIGHT to freedom of speech has allowed those fearful of speaking out AGAINST gay marriage feel exonerated.

It tells us that the speaker is basically "fearful" and looks to "rights" as a sort of guarantee that doing what comes naturally won't be punished.  Instead of presuming that what people do is good, unless and until it is proven wrong and liable to being punished, the speaker presumes that what people do is bad, unless and until it is certified as good.
In the olden days, the latter condition was characterized as "original sin" -- i.e. that humans are born bad and must be made good (saved) by being baptized and subordinated to the directives of religious leaders.  The role of the secular authorities (state), then and now, under this rubric is to serve as a back-up in case religious suasion is ineffective.
Given these preconceptions, the prohibition against state interference with establishments of religion is inconsequential, a meaningless sop, since support is not "interference."  The proponents of the first amendments to the Constitution may have wanted to rule out state support for religion, but since it wasn't ruled in in the body of the Constitution, the resulting double negative is open to interpretation, as is the autonomy of other private corporations.

The failure to severely limit private corporations as we do public ones is a major flaw in the organization of our society.  What good is insisting that individual rights be respected by public corporations when private ones can violate human and natural rights with impunity?

That's Ayotte Grafton County Steering Committee member Vicki Schwaegler. (4.00 / 3)
Really.

Archive TBONH (4.00 / 4)
I have the whole site archived, I suggest everyone else in Grafton 6 do the same for Jim and Carol, because surely it will disappear soon.  What a ride this one will be.

what a narrow view! (0.00 / 0)
Why are we not reporting on the fact that Ed is looking after his own self interest? What about the 1,315,000 residents of New Hampshire that are not gay? Who will represent us?

um, I dunno the 300 some odd house members who are heterosexual?

I often wonder if these people really believe their own bs.

If you assume I didn't support a Dem in a national election because I didn't support them in the Primary, well, you are confusing me with someone who doesn't want to see Democrats elected.
