Sean Mahoney Continues Phony Anti-Business Tour

Campaigns with car dealer discredited by Business Review magazine

Concord - Republican candidate for Congress, Sean Mahoney, continued his phony business tour today in Belmont by campaigning with Alan Silberberg.  Silberberg ran the Lakes Family Auto Center which closed shortly after Chrysler downsized its number of dealerships in May of 2009.

Silberberg has publicly blamed the restructuring of the auto-industry for his dealership's closing, and a release from the Mahoney campaign after today's event cited "bad government decisions in D.C" as the cause of the shutdown.

But less than a month ago, the New Hampshire Business Review Magazine called Silberberg's claims an "over simplification," adding that Chrysler sold fewer cars every successive year since 1999, except for 2004 and 2005, was an "industry dinosaur," and "headed for failure." (NHBR, 6/18/2010)

"Once again, Sean Mahoney is at odds with the facts," said Harrell Kirstein, press secretary for the New Hampshire Democratic Party.  "He is so desperate to make his false claims sound real that he is campaigning with people who have clearly been discredited."

Since the restructuring of Chrysler and the entire American auto industry, sales have increased across the board.  Chrysler has led the resurgence with a 33% increase in sales from last year, the largest increase of the three biggest Detroit auto manufacturers. (Detroit News, 6/2/2010)

Last week, Mahoney kicked off his phony business tour by attacking pro-business legislation like the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which provided the largest tax cut in United States history, and had multiple initiatives targeted to help small businesses grow and expand. "Just like any other career politician, Sean Mahoney will say and do anything to get elected," added Kirstein.
