Ayotte, Bender, and Binnie Pledge to Increase Deficit

by: William Tucker

Tue Aug 17, 2010 at 16:26:45 PM EDT

Drew Cline reports GOP U.S. Senate candidates Kelly Ayotte, Jim Bender, and Bill Binnie have signed a pledge vowing to repeal all federal estate and gift taxes. The facts:

  • Less than half a percent of estates pay any estate tax.
  • The average small business or family farm pays about 12 percent.
  • 37 percent of the value of estates worth more than $1 million and 56 percent of estates worth more than $10 million have never been subject to taxation as income.
  • Repeal would cost at least $500 billion over 10 years.
  • Repeal costs about 15 times more than extending unemployment benefits did, and we heard that the benefits were too expensive to finance with deficits.

I hate to engage (4.00 / 2)
in class warfare, but there really are two classes of people in this country now.  There are the top 2% or so and the Republicans will do anything for them.  And there are the rest of us, and we have Carol Shea Porter (and others, but I happen to particularly love Carol and her slogan).

Remember, there are more of us than there are of them.  But the more of us have to vote.

How else are our self-centered moneybags going to keep their (0.00 / 0)
off-spring close to home and doing their bidding, if they can't bribe them with goodies to leave sweet memories long after they're gone?
Estates are strings with which to tie up the next generation.  That, and if the money's in bonds, it's a secure income stream for the estate managers and trustee banks.
