Guinta's Precise Position on Social Security: Elimination

by: Dean Barker

Wed Oct 13, 2010 at 06:01:22 AM EDT

Frank Guinta, in front of the general electorate:
Guinta said he would not stop Social Security benefits for those currently receiving them, but he was less precise about his ideas for continuing to fund the system.

"Is there a different approach that we should be taking for those who aren't even in the system yet when they are in the system 30 or 40 years from now?" he said. "I think we should probably take a look at that so it is solvent for the long term."

Frank Guinta, in front of the GOP base:
My kids are 6 and 5.  They shouldn't know what Social Security is!

Let's put it this way. People have a right to being supported (0.00 / 0)
by the community in their old age.  Otherwise, the social contract is effectively null and void.

So, to deprive the elderly of support is a deprivation of rights and deprivation of rights is supposed to be reserved for punishment that's deserved -- i.e. in response to crime.

Since crime is, in essence, an unjustified deprivation of rights (a violation of a person's integrity or property), then depriving the elderly of support is a crime.  Guinta is promoting criminal behavior under cover of law.

I've read the phrase "punish the elderly" a couple of times, but, while that is what's being proposed by people against social security, I don't think it's quite right. "punish" is a word that presumes a prior determination of some guilt.  Besides, it's a phrase that leaves out the agent.  Who's acting is left out of the phrase.  So, I think it's better to fit the adjective to the perp and, in this case, refer to "punitive Frank."  What's Frank's punitive attitude supposed to prove?

For that matter, what else does Frank want to deprive his kids of?

Never mind what's in the bank.  Let Frank disprove his punitive agenda.

Yup (0.00 / 0)
Waving the "shiny thing" works both ways, so watch out for the Republican slight of hand and remember that their idea of government is not good for any of us, unless we are already really, really rich.

More extreme than Jeb Bradley (0.00 / 0)
who also refused to take a position on Social Security.

This is a winning issue for CSP - people out here in the real world (not to be confused with Palin's Real Murkins) are scared.

Carol Nailed Guinta on SS (0.00 / 0)
Susan is right.

SS was especially a hot issue in front of AARP members yesterday.

Carol gave Frank zero wiggle room on this.

We're trying to get the video from yesterday as I write this.

Can't wait for everyone to see Frank walk the plank on SS.
