Guinta Talks To Union Leader (and WMUR)

by: Kathy Sullivan 2

Wed Oct 13, 2010 at 17:47:40 PM EDT

Frank Guinta gave an interview to the UL this afternoon, again insisting that the money in the MBA came from he and his wife saving money.

The interview gives rise to some questions/comments:

1. Guinta attacks CSP and the Democratic Party for raising these questions. Frank, it was the Republicans who started asking these questions back in the summer, including your former boss, Jeb Bradley, who said you should make your bank statements public. The Democrats are asking the same questions your opponents asked. Stop blaming everyone else; you could end this tomorrow by producing bank statements, just as Jeb Bradley suggested weeks ago.

2.  He said he made a mistake on the congressional disclosure form and then corrected it. That does not explain why the MBA was not listed on any of his aldermanic or mayoral forms.

3. Guinta said he and his wife worked for nearly 20 years, he was in the private sector, and he made money in the markets.  Previously, Guinta has said he made money in real estate, and said his campaign manager was incorrect when he said that Guinta sold stocks to make the loans to the campaign. Here is a quote from an interview with Drew Cline back in the summer

"How does a guy who makes $68 grand have money? Well, I had a life before I was mayor. I purchased and sold property and made profits. I was a consultant. I made money."

4. Guinta says that even without the MBA, he had enough money to cover the loans/donations. That doesn't matter - he still was required to list the MBA.  And this claim is a little shakey. If my math is correct, his corrected report says he between $91,000 and $325,000 in bank accounts, mutual funds and the like.  So, that would mean that in order to come close to $355,000, he would have had to have had the maximum amount of each of the ranges given - which in one case would be a mutual fund account with $100,000 in it.  There is no such account listed in his mayoral/aldermanic reports, in which you are supposed to list investments of at least $50,000.

5. He never explains why the MBA was not listed in the aldermanic/mayoral reports.

WMUR is running an interview at 6, it will be interesting to see what that interview says.

Sorry Kathy, (0.00 / 0)
I was busy with my own and didn't see yours.

I linked to it - the point about the "markets" is a very good catch.

Regarding item # 2. ( Exhibit 2--LOL) I think Kathy identified the smoking gun a few weeks ago when she pointed out that this isn't the first time in his public career that Frank Guinta has been obligated to disclose.

Good investigative reporting.

Frank is in quicksand now, unless he can show a paper trail to his own money.
