Minus Mystery Money, Guinta's Campaign in the Red

by: Dean Barker

Sat Oct 16, 2010 at 06:59:32 AM EDT

Uh-oh - time for another deposit from a magic bank account:
Federal candidates must file finance reports by midnight Friday for the quarter ending Sept. 30. Shea-Porter's campaign says she raised $399,000 for the quarter, or about $82,000 more than the $318,000 Guinta raised.

She also has more than twice as much cash on hand, with $592,000 to Guinta's $290,000.

If you take out the $355,000 that everyone on the planet except for Frank Guinta believes entered his campaign illegally, he is running a $65,000 deficit.

That's right - the Guinta for Congress campaign is now chiefly fueled by two sources: out-of-state attack ad money from shady groups that won't disclose their donors, and funds that might one day be the reason he is kicked out of Congress.

This is, um, kind of a big deal.

Adding: to underscore how serious a matter this is, consider that in the second district, had Jennifer Horn's campaign not gone broke during the primary, there is every reason to believe she would have defeated Charlie Bass, despite having a ticket splitter in Bob Giuda.  Campaign money matters.  And it should matter to every voter if that campaign money is illegal.  And it should matter to everyone in New Hampshire that Frank Guinta refuses to produce a simple copy of a bank statement that would clear this up.

EVERY Republican contender is "chiefly funded" (4.00 / 2)
by "out-of-state attack ad money from shady groups that won't disclose their donors." It has completely overwhelmed actual voter contributions and is dominating the airwaves.

Statements! (0.00 / 0)
Come on, Frank, we need to see some statements of your mystery, magic money.  Did you know if you keep track of your account on line, you can print a statement from your computer?  Did you know if you lost your statement, most financial institutions can get you a new one?
I am really getting impatient with you, Frank!  Be a good boy, comply with the law, and don't just come up with another story about where the money came from.  If you can't keep track of your own money, I don't want you to have any responsibility for mine, and that's exactly what you want to do, be responsible for my tax dollars.

Krauthammer (4.00 / 1)
I heard right wing columnist Krauthammer say last week that the 'Republicans haven't broken any laws, they just have more money. Democrtas should stop whining'.
That's the prevailing Republican attitude post Citizen's United. Whatever corporations and their interest sectors did to buy elections in the past illegally, now can be done legally.
Go fight City Hall....

Right "legal crime." That's the Republican brand. (4.00 / 1)
That's what all the small print on people's credit card "contracts" was about.  If you can trick people into enslaving themselves, you're home free.

Guinta Favors Bailout? (4.00 / 1)
Is Frank Guinta a freeloader?

He relies on "mystery bank accounts" and the NRCC to cover his paltry fundraising.

Two points:
- Do the out of state handicappers measure the horse race based on $$? Is Charlie Cook's calculation skewed?

- Does the NRCC want to hoist a deadbeat up the flagpole. In 2012, or the anticipated special election, Frank would have to stand on his own two feet. Of course, as an incumbent, Guinta will have more to "offer" donors. For GOPers, that's how it works, right?

Harumph (4.00 / 2)
A Guinta flyer arrived in the mail today saying NH needs principled leadership. True - which is why I am voting for Carol Shea-Porter.
