Frank Guinta's Disturbing Views on Personal Privacy

Recently, Facebook was found to have leaked the private information of an untold number of users to third party apps. A bi-partisan pair of Congressmen are demanding answers:
The letter to Facebook follows a Wall Street Journal report which said all of the 10 most popular Facebook applications were transmitting unique user ID numbers to outside companies.
One of those ten apps has 59 million users.

This is Frank Guinta's response to the news:

"Facebook is not forcing anyone in this room to go on Facebook, therefore there is no law that is required to address the issue," he said. "It is classic 'government has to solve a problem that exists.' "
This should be disturbing to anyone in the Live Free or Die State.

Mr. Guinta is telling us that the next time your bank or your supermarket leaks your credit card info, he sees no need to step in.  You don't have to have a bank account.  You can grow your own food.

It is a particularly disturbing position for someone to take who values his own privacy so much he refuses to release a simple bank statement that would clear up a months long controversy about money that logic and common sense say cannot possibly be his.

Personal responsibility means that whatever happens to (0.00 / 0)
a person, that person is responsible for it.  When you give someone something, it's your fault if it is misused.  It's called being objective.  The agency of a subject is simply denied.

Personal privacy or the integrity of the person simply doesn't exist in this ideology.  If personal privacy were recognized, it wouldn't be possible to suggest that the integrity of a woman's body can be compromised.

A sense of privacy is likely foreign to an exhibitionist.  Guinta isn't refusing to reveal the source of the money he's spending to protect his privacy; he's doing it because he doesn't want to be told what to do.  Guinta gives orders; he doesn't follow them.  It's a matter of principle.
Besides, he does have a right not to incriminate himself.

Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.) trails Republican candidate Frank Guinta by five points, 42 percent to 47, with 9 percent of likely voters undecided, according to The Hill 2010 Midterm Election Poll.

This stat jumped out at me:


Shea-Porter has a 45-point lead among young voters, while Guinta has a 15-point lead among middle-aged voters and leads among older voters by one point.

Guinta's position on SS makes that almost impossible for me to believe.

And there is no enthusiasm gap:


Republicans lead in voter enthusiasm: Ninety-five percent said they will definitely vote, while 89 percent of Democrats said the same. And 90 percent of independents say they will definitely vote.

Check out the MoE: 4.9%.  Carol might well be ahead.
