Nobody Likes Bass - Not Even Jennifer Horn('s Cheerleaders)

by: Jack Mitchell

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

20 days ago, Dean wrote:
Is she threatening him?
[Jennifer Horn] also warned "if we are not happy with our representation, we will run again" (emphasis on 'we') and will "put a true conservative in this seat."
And this doesn't tell you that we need to do everything we can to capitalize on the other side's collective "meh" about Charlie, I don't know what will. From the right-wing diarist:
Some feel that we should vote for Charlie Bass, simply because he won the Party primary; some will hold their nose as they vote for him, but are not likely to provide any campaign support; some are considering a protest write-in; others prefer to do nothing.
Fired up, ready to... do nothing.

Well, her cheerleaders over at Granite Grok have sworn off Charlie Bass, this cycle. Apparently hoping for redder pastures, two years from now.

Jack Mitchell :: Nobody Likes Bass - Not Even Jennifer Horn('s Cheerleaders)
Her [Annie Kuster] opponent is former congressman Charlie Bass. Here's his voting record: He voted against requiring a photo ID for people to vote in federal elections (thus helping the Democrats to continue massive vote fraud operations); he voted to allow minors to be transported across state lines for abortions, without the knowledge or consent of their parents; he voted to keep the moratorium on offshore oil drilling; he voted to prohibit drilling for oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge; he voted to begin implementing the economy-killing Kyoto Protocols; he voted in favor the the "McCain-Feingold incumbent protection bill" (which was and is a direct attack on the First Amendment); he voted to approve huge budget deficits under President Bush; he supported the economy-killing "cap and trade" plan; and he voted against protecting the property rights of private citizens in zoning disputes. Bass describes himself as a "moderate," and is in the same category with Republicans such as Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Arnold Swartznegger, all of whom are in the "Republican Main Street Partnership" with him (some would call it the "Main Street RINO Partnership").
-snip

...If Bass gets into office, he will camoflage himself with a few strategic votes to make him "look" like a conservative...but he won't be. And when the chips are down, he will be unreliable.

In short, Charlie Bass will be a continuing danger to both conservatives and to the Republican Party. Yet he will "portray" himself as a Republican conservative. If allowed to do so, it will be harder in 2012 to pry him out of the CD-2 congressional seat in order to put a real conservative in office (especially with the incumbent-protection measures he has supported in the past, such as the egregious McCain-Feingold mess).

By "real conservative," they most certainly mean Jennifer Horn.

The irony is, that Horn's mob have been screamimg bloody murder about how Giuda's candidacy cost Jennifer Horn the nomination. Now, it seems, that Jennifer Horn's 2012 campaign will help lend to Charlie Bass losing in 2010.

The buck stops with Charlie, for sure. He is just terrible for NH-02.

That's just the strategy that worked so well for Huckabee in Iowa. (0.00 / 0)
The Club for Growth likes it.  I don't know what they call it, but it involves castigating your candidate for not being conservative enough to convince independents that he's in the middle and on their side.

An election is a voter action.  So, it's voters that have to be targeted with propaganda.  Lots of people will do what they are told not to do, just to be ornery and "prove" their independence.

Democrats don't have to resort to this strategy because they have no problem asking the voters for support, and doing it nicely.  Nice is going to win out, as long as the votes are properly recorded and counted.

If that is the plan, I think it will back fire.

The NHGOP has been, in a very loud way, shifting to the Right by a staged series of purity tests. Charlie Bass has attempted to pose as passable by these standards, but he has left a crumb trail that undermines his efforts.

Independents are not likely to vote for a status quo, poser.

The trick for GOP candidates, nationally, has been to appear passionate and principled, as opposed to rabid and crazy. Bass comes across as neither. The Bass campaign is a drip. Independents hate drips.

Further, I've read enough Grok to not assign them a level of Rovian sophistication. Those guys are on the straight and narrow.

Cornerstone: Beggars For Bass (0.00 / 0)
Pindell:
The powerful conservative organization Cornerstone Action only endorsed in one major race in September's primary: the Second Congressional District race against Charlie Bass. Their preferred candidate didn't win the nomination, but in a letter to members this morning, Cornerstone now declares that "conservatives can choose Bass."

Hannah,
Do the GOPers simply need permission to support Bass?

That's what it's all about. (0.00 / 0)
Giving and taking orders.  Nothing to worry about.  Everything is somebody else's fault.  Self-reliance is dangerous.  Regardless of the outcome, relying on oneself is wrong.  Choice is a no-win situation.

Although, if choices HAVE to be made, then "paper or plastic" comes in handy to prove that it can be done. :)

I learned that from our ancient house guest.  He's the very model of a conservative gentlemen and not at all bigoted.  Which leads me to think that the conservative base has really been shamefully abused and shame on us, if we let it go on.
