WMUR Shea-Porter v. Guinta Debate

by: Dean Barker

Mon Oct 25, 2010 at 18:55:19 PM EDT

I'm hoping at some point a link will open up here or here for the WMUR livestream.

I think instead of liveblogging it here I will tweet it. Here's a link to my twitterings.

"[Social Security] won't exist in 2037" (4.00 / 1)
That's a complete, nose-enhancing, LIE.

The pessimists say it will only be able to pay 75% of the higher benefits scheduled. Nobody except frigging Liars like Guinta says it will not exist.

Unless he simply is promising: elect me and it's gone.

I like how they say... (4.00 / 2)
I like how they say Social Security will inevitably collapse because we won't have enough workers to support the retirees... when we're NOT EVEN USING THE WORKFORCE WE HAVE NOW!

About 25% of the workforce is currently either unemployed or several underemployed.  Just putting that quarter of the workforce back to work would go a long way towards fixing the funding crisis.

BTW, something which gets overlooked in the analysis of the "aging crisis" is the fact that a lot of senior's care is provided by other seniors.  I was reminded of that last year when I visited the Senior Center in Salem for a Judd Gregg town hall: it was the busiest place in town, providing jobs (paid as well as unpaid) for a few dozen people, most of them of very mature years.

Thanks for all the fish

Guinta finally says that SS should be kept for "certain Americans."

Too bad for you, Generation X, Millenials, and everyone after you.

Well to be fair those generations (0.00 / 0)
Still get to pay in, b/c Guinta has said he will keep it going for those on it.

I felt bad for CSP -- if you are a voter and you can't see why that makes no sense, you maybe need to stay home.

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair's Statement on CD1 WMUR Debate

Concord - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley released the following statement after Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter highlighted the clear differences between her record working for the rest of us, and Frank Guinta's questionable candidacy at the WMUR debate this evening.

"Once again Mr. Guinta failed to be honest with Granite State citizens about the source of over $350,000.00 in mysterious funds that he failed to disclose with the FEC, and has been funneling into his campaign.  Despite calls from both Democratic and Republican Party leaders Mr. Guinta still refuses to release bank statements revealing the source of this secret money.

"Until Mr. Guinta is honest with New Hampshire voters there is no way they can trust him.  You can't demand the public's trust, you have to earn it, something that he has failed to do time and time again.  In these tough times New Hampshire can't afford to send anyone to Congress with as many question marks surrounding their candidacy as Frank Guinta has.

"Nor can we afford to have a representative who has called for ending Social Security, ending federal funding for Autism research, ending the Food and Drug Administration, and ending the Departments of Education and Energy.  Mr. Guinta's rhetoric is not only out of touch, it's dangerous, and would do serious harm to our state and our country."

guinta on the cost / job created by the stimulus....his pat answer makes me crazy (4.00 / 1)
We have heard the number 8000 plus jobs for 1 billion dollars spent and then the Republicans do the simple division which makes the job creation numbers look ridiculous, but when looking at infrastructure, the cost of personnel pales compared to the cost of materials...we are not talking paper and paper clips we are talking rebar, cement, stone, all kinds of materials that the Chinese are sucking up and making more expensive by the hour. Why does Carol fail to remind folks of that? We need the infrastructure for commerce - we all know that jobs alone are not the point; most of these projects have been delayed for years with real economic consequences to all businesses.

Maybe someone should (0.00 / 0)
suggest that his answer makes it sound like he thing the stimulus should have been direct payment "welfare" rather than infrastructure improvements need to move our country forward.

Hrm... (0.00 / 0)
I don't think either one was all that more particularly convincing with their answers...they both did well enough.

But boy, was he a condescending little jackass...

Guinta in Afghanistan (4.00 / 1)
It scares me that someone like Guinta will have a voice in our foreign policy.  His lame answer on what to do in Afghanistan showed he was clearly out of his league.

Let's be fair. (4.00 / 1)
His own limitations don't matter.

His votes on Afghanistan, and any other issue for that matter, will be cast by his anonymous bankers.

Write postcards, make phone calls, and go door-to-door for Carol - keep up the hard work, and keep the pressure on Guinta.

Guinta's baloney (4.00 / 1)
Having served with Frank during his single term in the NH House and witnessed his two terms on as an alderman and mayor, Frank's baloney tonight was out of control.

So I have a few things to say to my former colleague:

First, the whole issue of voting for speaker. Excuse me Frank but only one of you voted for the only speaker in modern times to be censured by the House ethics committee and forced to resign in disgrace. That would be you Frank! You voted for Gene Chandler for speaker of the NH House sir. Your vote for Chandler is a serious question to your judgement. On the other hand, my congresswoman voted for the speaker who raised the minimum wage, protected kids' healthcare, passed Wall St. reform and saved the American economy.

Second, the baloney about "reading legislation before you vote on it". Frank, while in the legislature nearly two thousand bills were filed, you and I both know you didn't read 90% of them. As an alderman how many times did you vote on contracts and other proposals of a hundred pages or more given to you moments before the vote on the BMA? Don't lie Frank, its all on dvds of the BMA meetings. I believe Carol when she says she reads the major legislation, you on the other hand...

So cut the baloney and mindless DC talking points and stop trying to avoid answering the question on where that half million in you account came from.

2012 starts today.
