Guinta Chooses Haley Barbour Over Youth Vote

by: Dean Barker

Fri Oct 29, 2010 at 06:08:06 AM EDT

Makes sense, since he seems to be all about the (mystery) benjamins anyway:
The former Manchester mayor, who is looking to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional district, was scheduled to tour the (Daniel Webster) campus at noon Thursday, and to address students and area residents later in the afternoon.

But campaign officials canceled the event after they were invited to a Manchester luncheon for Republican gubernatorial candidate John Stephen, featuring Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, head of the Republican Governors Association, according to Guinta spokesman Brett Bosse.

Sorry first-time voters of New Hampshire.  Frank's just not that into you when a Deep South presidential wannabe with ties to out-of-state millions is around.  After all, you can't run your campaign wholly on mystery money for too long without attracting attention.

UPDATE: OK, now Frank Guinta's priorities make even more sense. The Fix:

The RGA, fueled by Republican momentum nationwide and Chairman Haley Barbour's (Miss.) deep connections in the world of donors,  raked in $31 million between July 1 and Sept. 30.

Adding: As usual, Kathy's the smartest one in the room.  He's just hiding at this point from uncomfortable questions about the money and chossing friendly crowds. But does Frank Guinta really think the controversy over his magical bank accounts will end after the election?  Does he lack that much forethought?

A forum on Sunday. He doesn't want to answer questions.

I'm smelling a great deal of over-confidence (0.00 / 0)
on the R side.  Wow, are they in for a hangover on Wednesday - I think the Rs under-perform by at least two points nationally, and more in NH.  Guinta and the other Rs are following the adage that it's better to be quiet and let people think you're stupid than to speak and have them know it for sure.

I'm not a campaign expert, and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I know what the drill is when you think you're winning - you work harder.  I've seen no Rs at candidate forums in the past week and it's like the whole GOTV operation has gone silent.  Running out the clock?

Don't ask for whom the bell tolls...

The Union Leader has not endorsed Frank Guinta yet. As you may recall, the UL supported Ashooh in the primary, saying Guinta had not impressed them.  I don't anticipate that the UL will endorse CSP, and won't be surprised if they endorse Frank on Sunday or Monday, but, a late, late, late endorsement, and a dearth of editorial support over the last few weeks, speaks volumes about the tepid (at best) feelings of the UL toward the former mayor of Manchester.

he refused to debate Carol (0.00 / 0)
in the north country (hang in there!), so Carol came to the forum anyhow. Brave Sir Robin had dinner with the N. Conway Chamber of Commerce.

What a cowardly sack of ill-gotten cash he is.
