Why?

A graphic visualization of deaths caused by the Iraq war:
function
The orange represents civilians fatalities.

Likely over 100,000 lives ended before their time from an invasion that had nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD. More than that wounded. More than that displaced. Loved ones ripped apart. Families broken.  Dreams destroyed.

Why?

And why did we put Charlie Bass, who voted for the war, supported the war, and never once expressed regret over the war, back in power?

He failed us once (0.00 / 0)
and he'll fail us again, as will Ayotte and Guinta. All three are morally and ethically challenged and should never have been elected to anything.

once the war changed hands (4.00 / 3)
Democrats stopped talking about it. Many supported escalating in Afghanistan. Very few said boo when Obama increased the Offense budget. Very few said boo when he asked for an additional appropriations bill - the kind he disapproved of Bush asking for.

The fierce anti-war sentiment that existed during the Bush admin disappeared, along with the donations to peace groups.

That's part of why.

I've been amazed at how (0.00 / 0)
the wars have fallen off the radar over the past two years, Susan.  I attended multiple town halls with CSP and heard just one question on foreign policy.

Do you believe that the anti-war sentiment reached a "fierce" stage during the Bush years?  I never felt that way and still believe that most people choose to look the other way - more interested in reality TeeVee than the harsh realities of blowing people up.

Survivor - more than just TV.

there were huge anti-war protests (4.00 / 1)
marches, and flying emails. MoveOn regularly contacted me about the war. It was a topic of discussion - it was an issue in the 2008 presidential campaign. People talked about the war all the time. Maybe it's the circles I move in, but I heard talk about the war a lot, everywhere I went.

Once that war became Obama's - the discussion stopped. We accepted the escalation in Afghanistan. We've also accepted the escalation of warrantless wiretapping, the perpetuation of rendition, secret prisons, the perpetuation of Gitmo, the huge increase in offense spending, and the resumption of military tribunals, which Obama had been quite critical of, when Bush was doing them.

No more protests. No more marches. No more MoveOn war messages. Those who had previously been concerned pretended the war didn't exist any more, because to do otherwise would be to somehow "undermine" Obama. Sadly, holding elected officials will always be considered "undermining" by some.
