Country First.

(Shocker - took her all of two weeks to become a mindless pawn of the DC GOP.  Defeating Obama is more important to Kelly Ayotte than America winning. - promoted by Dean Barker)

Senator-elect Kelly Ayotte signed a letter along with some other Republican Senators-elect calling for the critical New START Treaty (on nuclear arms control) not to be voted on until the 112th Congress convenes in January with a larger Republican minority in the Senate.

I reject the idea that lame ducks lose the responsibility to govern before their successors take office, but there's a more pressing issue here:

If the vote is delayed as she wants, will Kelly Ayotte vote to ratify the New START Treaty?

Some in her party think this is a good opportunity to deny President Obama a political victory. It can be. But killing this treaty would be a horrifyingly selfish act by a party so hell-bent on winning the next election that they would truly live up to Jon Stewart's hyperbolic suggestion: they hate Obama more than they love America.

Senator-elect Ayotte, I implore you to do here what is clearly in the vital interest of all mankind.

I don't think you'll ever get my vote, but if you do the right thing on this, you will have my respect.

Douglas E. Lindner :: Country First.
From Ayotte's election night speech:
And we all know that we live in a dangerous world. Terrorist networks and rogue states continue to threaten free people every day. We must remain vigilant.
...
Tomorrow, we begin the important work of getting our country back on track. To those who are watching at home, please know that regardless of who you voted for, I will be a Senator who listens to the people and respects their views - even when they're different from my own.

When I get to Washington, with every piece of legislation, I will ask, "Is this right for New Hampshire?" I will be a hands-on Senator whose door is always open to the people of our great state. And I will never forget that public service is a great honor and a privilege.

Well, there's the problem. We've got a Senator who's hooked on (0.00 / 0)
honor and privilege and hasn't got a clue about the work servants are expected to do.  Ayotte apparently thinks the voters have consented to be her servants.  So, she gracefully accepts their obeisance.
Democracy as rotating royalty.

This (4.00 / 1)

took her all of two weeks to become a mindless pawn of the DC GOP.

Is what she was selected, packaged and marketed to voters to be. Nothing more.

the question at our County Committee Meeting (0.00 / 0)
Why why why did we(and Paul Hodes) not talk more about womens rights? Sen.elect Kelly Ayotte was willing to sacrifice a women's right to choose for power. She will have blood on her hands.

Annie 2012!

This is promising. (0.00 / 0)
Obama Forces Showdown With G.O.P. on Arms Pact

Buried at the bottom of the story is this description of reality (emphasis mine):

At this point, the Democratic strategy is to keep pressing for a deal with Mr. Kyl and to respond to every Republican question in an effort to minimize any pretext for opposition.

I'm not expecting that this will result in an immediate win for the president.  But Republicans do run the risk of alienating the public and the media opinion shapers who see the value in this treaty.

I'm also eager to find out if this reflects a change in governing style at the WH or if this is simply an issue that the president is passionate about.  Remember, while in the Senate, Obama partnered with Lugar to pass legislation to reduce nuclear proliferation.

On the other hand, from the Department of You Gotta Be Kidding Me, and after reading the results of this Pew Center survey, I'm almost ready to retract my comment about the public not being idiots.  Come on, less than 50% of the public know that the Republicans took over the House?

http://pewresearch.org/pubs/18...

Does not bode well for building popular support for a comprehensive arms treaty.

The public........ (0.00 / 0)
It's scary, but not really surprising. Too many people vote for the name they recognize and have no idea what that person stands for or to whom he/she owes allegiance. And, this time, they voted against the incumbent, regardless.

True. (0.00 / 0)
The more I think about the treaty, the more sense this approach by the president makes.  If he allows the Republicans to kick the can down the road, this becomes a presidential primary issue for them and another opportunity to take notches out of Obama's leadership belt.

It may also be a tipping point for a media that is too often eager to follow Republican narratives.  Although most of the NYT story today is dedicated to the politics of the treaty, many other actual news organizations (see McClatchy's coverage) are attempting to educate the public substantively. Regardless of the outcome of this strategy by the WH, it may set the stage for successful confrontation with the petulant party of no.

She's been a tool for a long time folks. (0.00 / 0)

I have plenty of criticisms of Ayotte, too. (0.00 / 0)
But until she announces her position on the treaty, I think we should actually try to convince her, rather than just complaining about what she seems likely to do.

I hear you but...... (0.00 / 0)
Her documented history will tell you not to trust her. I've been documenting her for nearly 4 years now and everything I allege is true.

http://christopher-king.blogsp...

She refused to refund $10,000.00 in campaign monies from Taxmasters, a company currently being sued by the Texas Attorney General's Office for false and deceptive consumer practices.

She lost $110M on the Tuttle/JUA Insurance cases. 09-E-148 & 09-E-151, affirmed on Appeal.

Here's her Right-to-Know Ethics violations; she never even saw to it that a 2006 Annual Report was issued, just the facts.

She violated Rules of Civil Procedure in her case against me, which was DISMISSED.

She ignored my Ethics complaint when someone forged a mortgage with my name on it as Title Insurance Producer.

Remember the Unconstitutional juvenile DNA reporting that got rescinded last year after the ACLU busted on her? I was the first to report that, BTW because the boy's father wrote me on it.

And remember Vericomm/MBF Leasing scam that many Attorney Generals were fighting? The Class Action FRAUD case in New York continues watch the video and read the Decision in Pludeman v. Northern Leasing Systems, 2008 NY Slip Op 04183 (2008). The class was certified on 24 April 2009, 2009 NY Slip Op 51290U read the comments. But Kelly Ayotte ignored my complaint on that, of course. It wouldn't surprise me if Sam Shaulson worked on the defense of those crooks too, it's right in his backyard!

From the conservative perspective, the purpose of the law is (0.00 / 0)
to subjugate the population.  So, for example, the prosecution of murder is motivated by the perception that the state has been deprived of the services of a citizen, AND the state's prerogative to determine who lives and who dies has been violated.  In other words, murder is an insult to the power of the state.  Rape, on the other hand, is not as serious, since the subjugation of women serves the interests of the state.

It really does depend on what preconceived notions you start from.

Which is exactly why LE tells Kelly to leave them alone and we get monsters like McKay and Fred Hoysradt, remember him?

Call Gregg's office (4.00 / 3)
And urge him to sign START. He's still supposed to be working.

And while you're at it, send the good folks at NH Peace Action a generous donation. NHPA has been steadily working with Gregg and Shaheen to get them to sign this important treaty. NHPA is a small, hardworking organization that relies almost totally on donor funding. NHPA is working for peace, every day of the week, every week of the year, no matter what party is in power.
