BOB PERRY WINS SPECIAL ELECTION!

by: Dean Barker

Tue Aug 09, 2011 at 19:57:37 PM EDT

(More good news for the NHDems - promoted by Mike Hoefer)

Ray Buckley tweets that we've just won the special election!

http://twitter.com/#!/Chairman...

Pindell's the only game in town with the numbers, which are not all in yet...

http://politicalscoop.wmur.com...

(Unofficial)numbers (from Pindell):

Town    Free Stater   Perry
Barrington    40% 60%
Farmington 45% 55%
Middleton     52% 48%
Milton        45% 55%
New Durham    45% 55%
Strafford     35% 65%

Perry swamped the Free Stater in her home town (if you could call it that for someone who is here as part of a movement for the express purpose of taking over the state) 60%-40%!!

Dante Scala's tweet feed has lots more:

http://twitter.com/#!/Graniteprof

NEW HAMPSHIRE IS WAKING UP!

UPDATE: from the Chairman, in part:

"Bob Perry's victory tonight is a complete and total rejection of Republican House Speaker Bill O'Brien's reckless job killing agenda.  In a historically Republican district, New Hampshire voters turned out in the middle of summer to send a loud and clear message to the out of control Republican majority. Its relentless attempts to make cigarettes cheaper but college more expensive, slash women's health care, and kill jobs by taxing hospitals must stop immediately.

"New Hampshire voters have seen enough of the radical Free State agenda this year with bills that would allow guns in schools and courts, would remove support for our United States' Constitution out of the oath of office, and would eliminate public kindergarten.

Way to go Bob!  Woohoo!

ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!! (4.00 / 7)

This is huge!!!

Finally a reason to really be hopeful.

'intended victim community' might be a better fit.

A Good Man... (4.00 / 6)
...who will now be able to continue doing good things.

I can't remember when (4.00 / 12)
the last time a party picked up two seats in a row for special elections.  Usually they end up being a "hold" or one pick up but TW0 in a row...

This is a serious indictment on the reckless radical agenda of Bill O'Brien.

No amount of money from the NHGOP could have saved this seat.

The people are disgusted with O'Brien's reign of error.

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

Daler + Perry = 6 more votes N'Obrien needs for RTWFL n/t (4.00 / 7)

Congratulations Bob! (4.00 / 16)
This is great news. One less vote to override the RTW veto. One less vote to override Voter ID. One less vote to overturn marriage equality.

And as I tweeted - this is a repudiation of the extremist O'Brien junta and the Free Staters at the same time!

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to ensure Bob's victory. Bob is going back to the House where he belongs!!

Excellent! (4.00 / 12)
Bill O'Brien Republicans repudiated again, and the u turn from the 010 wrong turn continues.

Congrats to Rep. Perry and the people who worked so hard to elect him! And to the voters in the district.

GRANITE STATE PROGRESS PAC STATEMENT ON DEMOCRAT BOB PERRY WINNING SPECIAL ELECTION IN STRAFFORD 3

Voters reject the attempting lure of "Republican" Honey Puterbaugh

CONCORD, NH - Democrat Bob Perry has won the special election for State Representative in Strafford District 3 in New Hampshire by a margin of 58%-42%. The race was to fill the seat left open after Republican Rep. Marty Harty had to resign over disparaging remarks he made.

"This is another sign that voters are paying attention in New Hampshire and eager to take back our state from the extreme views of the super conservative supermajority in Concord," said Zandra Rice Hawkins, Director of Granite State Progress and Chair of Granite State Progress PAC. "Speaker O'Brien has spent his tenure attacking middle class families and upsetting traditional New Hampshire values. His priorities are not the priorities of New Hampshire. The outcome of the special election is another indication that O'Brien's time in leadership is limited."

The special election was also ground zero in the debate over whether the Free State Project is helping or hurting the Republican Party brand in New Hampshire. Newspaper editorials and local websites exposed the quiet attempt by Republican candidate Honey Puterbaugh and the NH GOP to avoid publicly discussing Puterbaugh's affiliation with the ultra-extreme libertarian group. Free Staters had contributed heavily to Puterbaugh's campaign.

Granite State Progress PAC publicly referenced the connection in a direct mail piece sent out over the weekend. The piece, recycled from a similar mailer that proved effective in the Jennifer Daler Special Election earlier this year, informed voters about legislation at the State House to form a state militia - with mandatory service from all able-bodied residents of the state 18 years of age or older.  (The prime sponsor is Rep. Dan Itse, R-Fremont, House Speaker Bill O'Brien's handpicked Chair of the House Constitutional Review committee. The NH House didn't reject the legislation - it laid it on the table for future consideration.)

"Candidate Honey Puterbaugh is running as a Republican, but she is really a part of the radical Free State Project bent on dismantling our state," the mail piece read. "She would continue the damage in Concord, while Democrat Bob Perry would be a voice of reason. Now, more than ever, we need his voice in the New Hampshire House of Representatives."

Perry's win margin mimics that of Democrat Jennifer Daler who won a special election for State Representative in Hillsborough District 4 - Speaker O'Brien's home district - earlier this year. Both Perry and Daler trounced the competition 58%-42%.

"We are excited to see Rep. Bob Perry back in Concord, doing the people's work," Rice Hawkins said. "Perry has New Hampshire's interest at heart, and his constituents will be pleased with his votes."

This was a not-so-subtle proxy fight. (4.00 / 8)
Governor Lynch, Chairman Buckley, and NHDP won; Speaker O'Brien, Chairman Kimball, and NHGOP lost.

Both sides really wanted this, and for good reason: it's a show of strength going forward.

Hope everyone is fired up for tomorrow's rally at the State House!

When Jack Kimball loses, (4.00 / 7)
we all win.

[ Parent ]
It's about O'Brien (4.00 / 5)
Kimball can't spin the voters, they know O'Brien is determined on destroying New Hampshire. Kimball could have spent $20,000 and Bob still would have won.

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

Absolutely Mr. Chairman. (4.00 / 3)
But Jack Kimball is a despicable human being and seeing him rebuked in any way is sweet.

In line with the polling (4.00 / 3)
Perry wins 58-42. In 2010, the seat went 58-42 the other way. A 32-point swing is in line with the shift in generic legislative control preferences that PPP found relative to last November. If that holds up in 2012, say hello to Democratic control once more...

Only the left protects anyone's rights.

Also... (4.00 / 1)
Not NH, but in Wisconsin, the SD-14 race ended up R+4. PPP's final poll of that race was R+3. PPP has a very good record in down-ballot races.

Only the left protects anyone's rights.

Media coverage now (4.00 / 5)
This a great win for Bob, and a repuditation of the Free State Project. And is it possible that the media will finally start covering the story of what the FSP has really been up to ?
