POTUS on NHGOV

by: Mike Hoefer

Thu Sep 15, 2011 at 19:31:21 PM EDT

John Lynch, for nearly four terms as Governor, has worked across party lines time and time again to grow the New Hampshire economy, improve high school graduation rates and make it easier for businesses to invest in research and development.  Through some tough economic times, John maintained key services for Granite State residents all while keeping faith with New Hampshire's independent spirit.  Michelle and I wish John and his family well and join the people of New Hampshire in thanking him for his many years of service.

Who is running? (3.75 / 8)
Pindell has a story up listing potential Democratic candidates, including Maggie Hassan, John Kacavas, Jackie Cilley, Steve Marchand, Mark Connelly and Mark Fernald.

I hope we do have a primary with four or five candidates. I want a really healthy, hearty debate. I think that will be best for the party and the ultimate candidate.  I hope people no one has thought of look at running.  Someone suggested to me today that we should unite behind a candidate quickly, but that doesn't seem like a good thing.

Agreed. (4.00 / 5)
I believe the healthiest, as well as the most electorally advantageous situation, is for more than two credible candidates to run and for all to refrain from acrimony towards each other.

The more credible candidates, the more it becomes about the issues, the more the media covers Dedmocratic values.

And then let's make sure they all vow to work night and day for the chosen nominee and the exec council, senate and house reps up to the election.

No rushing needed (4.00 / 8)
Also don't think people need to rush to endorse; otherwise, you end up with "the establishment candidate", "the grassroots candidate", "the progressive candidate", "the centrist candidate", "the seacoast candidate", the whatever candidate. Give the candidates a fair hearing, we are about one year from the primary, so we all have plenty of time to
listen, question, learn, see who will be the most formidable in a year that should be ours, but will be hard fought and close.

We do need to let the Republicans eat their own though. (0.00 / 0)
It can't become a crap fest on our side.  I really believe we, as Democrats, can run some of the best, cleanest and fare campaigns.  All of that will show to the state that we are the party that should be in control.

A Healthy Primary For September... (4.00 / 2)
...makes for a stronger candidate in November.  In 2004, I think the hearty contest between former Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee Paul McEachern and John Lynch made Lynch a much better candidate as he then faced the incumbent, Craig what's-his-name.  The challenge might well have shored up Lynch's margin of victory in November.

It revved up Lynch's organization earlier, and his messages and issues, and with both McEachern and Lynch focusing on the then-Governor, it made for months of critical thinking by the electorate.

The discussion among our next generation of statewide leaders that the upcoming primary will provide will give us a chance to focus on the stupidity of the Republican/Tea Party/Far-Right "agenda."

I am convinced we will have energetic and quality primary... (4.00 / 2)

lots of folks thinking about running.

The GOP primary will be a snorer, seriously, what is the differences between Ovide, Kevin and Johnny? And rumors yesterday that "establishment" operatives are pushing Charlie and Jeb to jump in too.

They have all drunk the TEA, knelt at the alter of NOM and have to defend O'Brien.

Have you told a stranger today about Bill O'Brien and his Tea Party agenda? The people of NH deserve to hear about O'Brien  and his majority committed to destroying New Hampshire and remaking it into a armed survivalist preserve.

"Drunk The Tea" (0.00 / 0)
...lol I like that one.  There are lots of varieties of tea, of course -- and what we've seen is only the most bitter one -- and we've learned it's bad for American's health.

Besides, I prefer coffee.

Tea was the King's drink, coffee is an 'American' drink. (4.00 / 1)
Yeah, my post is a not needed bit of trivia, but I think it still plays out well when you think through it.
